Funny Friday Lite: Colbert Addresses The Politically Tone Deaf

From Denny:  Well, today the news is far from earth shattering. President Obama announced his reelection campaign to the yawns of the public this week. The GOP presidential hopefuls field is also a yawn to the Republicans. To the tune of 56 percent have absolutely zero interest in the field before them at this time.  Gee, "Do ya think?" they are finally waking up to the true GOP agenda?

Other good news on the horizon? The Tea Party seems to have peaked. A few months ago they were able to gather tens of thousands for their rallies. This week they claimed to have 350 people when the reality was around 70, judging by the camera phone photo sent in to CNN.

Government Shutdown and Cartoons: Courtesy of Tea Party and GOP

Boehner And CantorGOP Cantor, left, GOP Speaker Boehner, right - Image by TalkMediaNews via Flickr

From Denny: This budget mess is a dark farce, courtesy of the Republicans and their inbred political cousins, the Tea Party. The GOP hates women and they hate giving federal funding for women's health care.

Millions of women depend upon that funding in Title 10 which provides reproductive and preventative care. Since it is mainly low-income women who are the beneficiary of these funds, Republicans don't care. After all, low-income people are not their voting demographic. Nor have they ever done anything for women either.

The whole process is disingenuous. To get the $100 billion the Tea Party demands, it's obvious: all you have to do is stop these idiot wars in Afghanistan and Iraq where we spend billions per month. And now our heavy involvement in Libya is equally expensive - to the tune of $1 million per Tomahawk missile fired to enforce the No-Fly Zone.

Want more easy cuts? Try the $1 billion "tax cuts" for the wealthy that President Obama gave away far too easily, especially when 70 percent of the entire country said they did not want the rich to get tax cuts. He foolishly did it anyway. And now, here we are months later, with all of Congress and the President looking stupid in this budget fight.

It's been a head-scratching wonder how long it would take for the Democrats to finally quit playing doormat and say no to the GOP bullying. Every time there is an agreement, the GOP back up on their word and greedily demand more. Politicians throwing temper tantrums is getting old.

Political Cartoons: Obama 2011 State Of The Union

How the cartoonists viewed the 2011 SOTU and cracked Republican responses.

President Barack Obama delivers the 2010 State...Obama 2010 SOTU photo Image via Wikipedia

From Denny:  Oh, the SOTU address.  Doesn't it just bring shivers down your spine? OK, maybe not.  But we do all wait for that time once a year to see if our politicians can behave like grown-ups for at least a night.  Since the horrific shooting of Democrat Congresswoman Gabby Giffords in Tucson a few weeks ago, the watchword was to dial back the toxic rhetoric and dish out civil political discourse.

Well, this year was the time of acting like a bunch of middle school kids, asking each other to sit together in "mixed seating" instead of the usual partisan group seating by political party.  No kidding.  GOP Cantor asked Democrat Speaker Pelosi to sit with him.  Of course, he was too popular and too cool to ask her directly.  He did so through about three intermediaries.  How childish can you get?  Pelosi politely gave his staff the brush off as she had already asked her own Republican beau to the dance, uh, farce.

President Obama was barely into his speech when the GOP was up on Twitter denouncing it in the ugliest of tones and the usual spitballs flying all over the classroom, uh, the nation's Capitol.  In the SOTU speech Obama seemed to hit the right notes with the American public as was evidenced by the polls.  The real question is whether this president who is well known for inspirational speech-making will actually follow up with more than tepid deeds aimed at pleasing corporate welfare America.  And my question is this:  Will he ever look like a Democrat instead of a right-leaning GOP wannabe?

Democrat, Rep. Giffords, Shot In Head At Rally By Crazed Gunman Attack: 6 Dead

Poisonous politics from the Republicans have come to this - shooting the good politicians and innocent bystanders.

From Denny: Sadly, today a Democratic Congresswoman, Gabrielle Giffords, was shot in the head by a crazed gunman at a political rally in Tucson, Arizona. She was there to listen to her constituents about their concerns before returning to Washington. It was democratic politics at it's best. She was the accessible politician where the people could personally talk to her, not having to wade through a maze of aides.

She is in critical condition, after surgery, and the next 24 hours will tell. So far she is responding well to commands which indicates there is little or no swelling of her brain - and that's good news.

American and World Politics Cartoons - 27 Nov 2010

Lots to lampoon this week for cartoonists as they poke fun at crazy North Korea, the buffoon of the world.

From Denny: Dark humor seems to be spreading around the world as everyone watches their own economies erode and slowly implode. To add to the Blow It All Up mindset along comes North Korea this week and they bomb the hell out of some hapless islanders off the coast of South Korea. "We want attention and we want it NOW!" screams North Korea to the world. Oh, please. What a bunch of Bozos.

Why does anyone give these guys money or food? Of course, North Korea does have the largest concentration of weapons in one small geographical location on the planet. What a sweet thought: As these Bozos fire off a missile, nuke or not, chances are high they have not properly maintained said accumulated weaponry and the end result is they blow up their own country.

Another scenario is they could end up sinking the whole island - along with South Korea as they blow up their entire arsenal. There would be a giant black hole created off China. Of course, China might figure out a way to make a profit off it as a tourist attraction.

Will someone please pay me to think up outrageous yet probable scenarios? What a gig. Oh, that's right, that job is already taken by the Pentagon and the CIA. No room for competition, ol' boys network? :)

The political fringe Tea Party continues to amaze and amuse us. Who knows? Maybe they will prove to end Washington gridlock and get the Republicans to implode? Karl Rove is already apoplectic since he can't control or strong arm the Tea Party. This should be prove to entertaining political drama for the next two years. At the rate this economy is going it may be the only channel any of us can afford to watch.

Our greatest amusement of all is what the media is trying to set up as the match-up between Republican Palin and Democrat Obama for the 2012 election. The sad thing is that the Democrats and the donors are already in the process to push Obama aside as his poll numbers drop like a rock. Palin is a screwball political pretender who is all about collecting as much money as she can stuff into her bank account.  It's the American way, right?

The real match-up will be between someone like Romney and a Democratic primary challenger yet to be named. Obama won't get the nomination for 2012. Sad, isn't it? Obama held a lot of promise but his presidency is done. Like President Jimmy Carter Obama doesn't listen to or cooperate with his Democratic Party either. That's what got Carter tossed aside for a second term. Carter is still shunned by Democrats. It looks like that will be Obama's fate as well since he has stiff-armed his own party faithful and they have finally had enough.

And on the terrorism front:  More amusement comes from the TSA corner as they continue to grope America for their anti-terrorism jollies.

While former Speaker of the House Tom DeLay was finally found guilty of a few of his many crimes. The punishment has still not been handed down. He could get life in prison or probation and no time behind bars. Talk about a wide range of possibilities. He enjoyed styling himself as the Harsh Hammer of the Republican Party yet now he whines about how hard life has been for him. He was hateful beyond measure and now wonders why it came back to haunt him?
