America's most popular ex-President talks about how to get the economy jumpstarted and the serious erosion of the middle class if the election is turned over to the Republicans.
From Denny: Former President Bill Clinton keeps rising in popularity as President Obama descends that ladder. America is restless. Since Obama was elected the middle class has grown increasingly disappointed we are left out in the cold - again - by the Democratic Party that used to support the middle class against Big Business eroding our wealth, our stability, our hopes for the future. The people ARE the economy and when the people have lost confidence the economy slides down into despair.

America and World Politics Cartoons - 25 Sept 2010
Check out cartoonist opinion on American and world politics this week.
From Denny: The usual political focus this week has been the obvious - the politicians are more worried about keeping their jobs, keeping their majority or gaining the majority in Congress than about governing the country. Some things never change - yet these are the very things that require change.
Interestingly enough, the Tea Party is annoying and confusing the Republican establishment. The Tea Party regulars refuse to march in lock step and unbridled obedience. That would sound like people who want to think for themselves and should be a good thing, right? Unfortunately, the Tea Party is even more radical than the radical Republicans - to the tune of downright insanely outrageous.
If either group gets back into power they have promised to get rid of Social Security so old people won't have any of their hard-earned money as a modest retirement. If they can't get rid of Social Security then they plan to turn the huge fund over to Wall Street to manage. Uh, that's the old adage of "the fox guarding the hen house" and will never work. The conservatives want to get rid of Medicare, Medicaid and repeal the health care law so the old - or anyone else for that matter - will have reasonably priced health care.
They want to get rid of unions so employees will be at the mercy of greedy employers, paying or not paying on a capricious whim. Of course, that's what it is like living in what is called a "right to work state" like Louisiana, Georgia and about a dozen other states in America. A "right to work" state is where an employee basically has no rights unless they are unionized. Employers go after anyone who tries to unionize.
Traditionally, the Democrats used to be for the middle class and the working person. These days there is a new breed of Democrats slinking onto the stage: the corporate Democrat - and they are just "Sellout Lite"compared to the Republicans who are "Complete Sellout, Even Our Souls."
It's important to the survival of the middle class in America that Democrats purge the party of corporate politicians and champion the needs of the middle class. Without the middle class thriving the poor get thrown into the abyss of poverty even deeper. It's the middle class who give generously to charities world wide. It's the middle class who cares. Without the middle class what will happen to those in greatest need in America and the world?
Oh, and did I mention how the Republicans don't plan to have a government or enforce any of the laws that might pertain to Big Business once they get a choke hold on Congress again? That pretty much sums up this week's campaign slogans from the Republicans when they rolled out their tired Pledge to America, a retread from 1994. Americans are looking at them and saying, "You fooled me once back in '94; you aren't fooling me again in 2010."

Who Will Be Prez Obamas Next Chief of Staff?
Check out the leading contenders who can make or break the Democratic agenda.
From Denny: The usual rumors are swirling in the political sphere. And the usual political skunks like Axelrod and Plouffe are lying their asses off to convince their fellow Democrats how committed they are to this President. Now who believes that drivel? It's because of these guys, Axelrod and Plouffe, are the very political advisers who have ignored proper governing of this country, creating the past two years of mess in this country. They kept "handling" the public instead of going to work on the many tough issues like unemployment. No one really cares when you pass a weak health care bill that does not help the middle class. No one cares when you continue to dance to the tune of Big Business when it hurts the middle class. No one cares when you pass weak credit card legislation that does nothing to protect consumers in a meaningful way. Axelrod and Plouffe are the very reasons this presidency is so ineffective. And now they want the job of Chief of Staff? Deliver us from them, Mr. President! These two have been pushing Rahm out the door since day one, trying to get his job - and now you plan to hand it to them? Names on the short list of candidates being tossed around:Vice President Biden's chief of staff Ron Klain White House senior advisor Valerie Jarrett Deputy National Security Advisor Tom Donilon White House deputy chief of staff Jim Messina Obama's 2008 campaign manager, David PlouffeFormer Senator Majority (and Minority) Leader Tom DaschleAmerica is in dire straits economically, Mr. President. This is simply not the time for the personal ambitions of dressing up their resumes of which your Chicago group is so fond. This is the time for someone with a personal agenda that is not at odds with the needs of the American middle class and small businesses. What you need is a former or sitting Senator. You need someone with long lengthy friendships in the Senate that knows the quirks and what makes them tick. This is what hurt President Jimmy Carter and why he failed in his presidency. He simply did not possess the inner workings of the Washington network.None of your candidates has that network of relationships in the Senate. Rahm had them in the House and that's why he was so successful getting so many bills passed with Speaker Pelosi. But Senator Harry Reid fell down on the job and Rahm couldn't help him with the Senate to get your agenda going. The only person qualified on your list who knows how to work in the trenches is former Senator Tom Daschle. He has the long standing relationships, the intricate knowledge of Senate rules like the late Senator Byrd, and he has the finesse for which you have longed in dealing with the Republicans. Hire anyone else and you are doomed to fail. Offer Dashchle whatever it takes to get him on board yesterday. Don't wait yet another two months before making a decision. Rahm's mind is already running for Chicago mayor and now his head in not in the game. This country needs a faster response time federal government. It's easy to get caught up in The Beltway mindset where the whole area works for the government or benefits from reporting on the government. Everyone there is quite comfortable getting their regular paychecks and affordable health care. There isn't the desperation about the economy in your immediate atmosphere. The decisions you make now will take as long as another two years to play out effectively. A big ship is hard to turn in the water and harder still to move quickly. Don't drag your feet on this decision nor agonize about hurting your friends. Put the American people first as they are the ones who are really hurting.

*** Check out news, political opinion - serious and funny cartoons, recipes, science news, poetry, funny posts, photography, spiritual thoughts and great quotes.
From Denny: This week I was forced "off the grid" on two different days. Monday and to noon Tuesday my server was off line - which is rare - but when it happens on a Monday I always figure there was an obnoxious computer virus attack. Then again on Thursday we had some seriously severe thunderstorms in our area for the day, lots of intense lightning which we never used to see until this year. Even my outdoor cats made a run for inside the house with a "Make way, lady, we're running in full speed: incoming!" Well, I made good use of the "snail time" and read some "snail books" - quite the treat when normally I'm fast paced and hard-charging. I might try this "off the grid" vacation a bit more often as it was enjoyable! Anyway, I wasn't able to publish all that I wanted to this week and will see what I can do to get caught up for you.
