From Denny: The usual rumors are swirling in the political sphere. And the usual political skunks like Axelrod and Plouffe are lying their asses off to convince their fellow Democrats how committed they are to this President. Now who believes that drivel? It's because of these guys, Axelrod and Plouffe, are the very political advisers who have ignored proper governing of this country, creating the past two years of mess in this country. They kept "handling" the public instead of going to work on the many tough issues like unemployment. No one really cares when you pass a weak health care bill that does not help the middle class. No one cares when you continue to dance to the tune of Big Business when it hurts the middle class. No one cares when you pass weak credit card legislation that does nothing to protect consumers in a meaningful way. Axelrod and Plouffe are the very reasons this presidency is so ineffective. And now they want the job of Chief of Staff? Deliver us from them, Mr. President! He simply did not possess the inner workings of the Washington network.None of your candidates has that network of relationships in the Senate. Rahm had them in the House and that's why he was so successful getting so many bills passed with Speaker Pelosi. America and The Economy Cartoons - 11 Sept 2010
America's economic sugar high is a rocky roller coaster ride that no one knows where it will go. Check out the latest cartoonist opinions.
From Denny: The Prez's popularity numbers have been rocky for some time and are on the upswing as he has tightened his message and gone on the offensive against unpatriotic Republicans. For two years now, Americans have suffered unemployment to the tune of almost 20 million now looking for jobs. Many more millions are underemployed. That explains the high home foreclosure rate across the country. The Republicans continue to hold the middle class hostage by refusing every step of the way to solve unemployment problems, even refusing to fund unemployment benefits for four long months as people figure out how to survive in this tough economy. How do these politicians sleep at night knowing how much suffering they have inflicted upon fellow Americans? The President is still trying to pass legislation to help send loans to small businesses to survive - yet the Republicans continue to deny small business people what they need: cash. You see the Big Banks took the federal stimulus monies and then refused to make loans as expected. Frankly, Mr. President, I would start strong-arming those Big Business fools and demand back my money. If they won't employ the money as intended then take it back and redeploy it elsewhere in the economy where it can do some good. And while you are at it reining in Big Business amoral dealings, how about taking away ALL their tax breaks? That's right. The American middle class is fed up with Big Business practices of getting tax breaks and then sending American jobs overseas. Why should they be allowed to station their headquarters here in America if they refuse to hire to the level of 90 percent Americans? Why should they get federal monies when they turn around and scoop it for their quarterly profits and then shed thousands of jobs here? You have got to stop these unethical practices or you will surely lose in the election cycle of 2012.

Call to Christians And Muslims Against Violence From Threat to Burn Koran
Phony Christian pastor incites international violence for threatening to burn the Koran.
From Denny: When I heard about this nut case in Florida, claiming to be a Christian, yet screaming how another religion is "of the Devil," well, evidence there is yet more from Camp Stupid and Camp Outrageous. The first question that came to mind was, "So why is this guy so adamant to get his 15 minutes of negative attention fame?" Like so many things in life, what is on the surface is rarely the truth.Usually, when people pull destructive stunts like this it is often for misdirection away from something else. The internal suspicion radar wonders if this guy is tied into a white supremacist militia group. Then there are the Republican political strategists who are always stirring up the Moral Majority religious fringe right. It is curious how this bizarre stunt suddenly surfaces when President Obama is working so hard on Middle East Peace with Israel and Palestine. There are always those fools on all sides who try to derail Peace initiatives. Our job is not to give in to them and allow them to destroy Peace. The vast majority of Americans think this "pastor" has crossed the line. After all, when you condemn someone else's religion you end up condemning your own. All religions could take a lesson from that thought.Often these small fringe Protestant churches are a bunch of odd misfits who think they don't have to answer to anyone or respect anyone. They lie and hide behind the apron strings of religion and constitutional rights while they incite violence and hate. The same could be said of Islamic terrorists for they operate in the same manner. They are both wrong and both not honoring their claimed religions, rather they are wallowing in negative cultures that grew up around those religions.
If ever there was a time for a rallying call it's now. The rallying call is not for Christians to line up on the battle field against Muslims or Muslims to line up on the battle field against Christians. What we all need to do is take a deep breath and ask ourselves one question: "Do we think God is great?" For that is where our focus should rest - not upon ourselves or "the other guy" we don't like.If we do agree on that one precept then it's obvious what is the next logical line of reasoning. If God is greater than all of us combined, does He really need us to defend Him? Of course not. What God wants from all of us is to figure out how to live in Peace and kindness toward one another while we each individually - or collectively as nations - travel on our spiritual journeys toward understanding. Part of that path is to grow our attitudes away from violence and toward patience and tolerance. While we do have religious freedom and freedom of expression in this great country of America, there are also local fire ordinances. Remember, at the moment there is only the threat of burning the Koran. Sometimes, it's the simple things that take care of stupidity like this. The city of Gainesville, Florida has prevented the "pastor" from burning the Korans as that burning presents a fire hazard. Apparently, the ink is highly incendiary. Now that's the understatement of the year.*** Update 10 Sept 2010: This story is constantly changing back and forth from threatening to burn the 200 Korans to not doing it. There are claims this pastor has made that the mosque near Ground Zero will be moved or not built at all - all because of his stunt. The New York City mosque has no plans to move their planned building nor has that Imam agreed to meet with this Florida pastor threatening violence - even though Pastor Jones has claimed the Imam will meet with him.As of Friday night the Florida pastor has stated he will not go through with the burning of the Korans and may not even be in town. Let's see, the FBI probably warned him that if he went through with it - and if anyone was harmed by violence or rioting - that he would be held responsible by federal hate crime law. The planned burning was also in violation of the city of Gainesville's fire ordinances.Saturday is the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorism in New York City on the World Trade Center. Tensions continue between American Christians and Muslims around the world because of this act of terrorism. The Republican political strategists continue to stir up people to anger rather than tolerance and cooperation as one nation, different faiths and beliefs. After all, you can easily control people by keeping them angry, so angry they take their focus off solving problems by thinking their way through them with wisdom. On this anniversary of hate, let's lower the political temperature and instead respond with spiritual forgiveness and wisdom.

Majority in Poll Say America Still Not Ready For Big Disasters
*** Our government has a long way to go to convince Americans it can handle large scale natural or man made disasters.
From Denny: It's no surprise that most of my fellow Americans believe our government is still not ready to properly handle a big disaster. Pushing the nasty politics aside that the Republicans dished out onto the people of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, the largest American disaster ever, that definitely complicated matters - our government still suffers a lack of quality coordination and fast response times. The truth is that Bush and Cheney had dismantled key components of FEMA and other agencies, preventing them from reacting in a timely fashion and on a large enough scale. President Obama has had so many fires on so many fronts because of how the Republicans have crippled our government from being able to operate that Obama's attention has yet to rest upon restoring key elements of emergency response for inside America. It's been five years since Hurricane Katrina struck on 29 August 2005 and still this great country has yet to get its act together to handle severe emergencies. America is the only nation on this earth that has the most violent weather. With global warming that weather severity has increased. We are foolish not to address our infrastructure vulnerabilities and government responses. And it looks like a lot of America agrees that America still isn't ready - even after five years and now an oil spill disaster. This oil spill just highlighted how much our government agencies have to learn and how much Congress needs to get busy reining in and penalizing Big Business for running such shoddy operations that risk the economy and the safety of the American people. The nonpartisan Pew Research Center poll released today had these results where they surveyed equal numbers of Democrats, Republicans and Independents:* 57 percent say the country has not improved its disaster preparations* 38 percent said the country is more ready than it was.* 69 percent think progress has been made rebuilding New Orleans and the Gulf (As a Louisiana blogger I can tell you that we have made great strides).* People in the South - which includes Gulf Coast states - feel most strongly about it, with 75 percent saying progress has been made. In other regions, a combined 66 percent see progress. * Only 63 percent of Democrats were convinced than Republicans and Independents, saying reconstruction has moved ahead. * Pew conducted the poll from Aug. 19-22, interviewing 1,003 randomly chosen adults by telephone, including those on landlines and cell phones. The margin of sampling error was plus or minus 4 percentage points.Poll: 57% Say U.S. Still Not Ready for DisastersFive Years after Katrina, Just 38% of Respondents Think Country Is Better Prepared to Handle Natural Disasters*** NASA Photo of Hurricane Katrina *** THANKS for visiting, feel welcome to drop a comment or opinion, enjoy bookmarking this post on your favorite social site, a big shout out to awesome current subscribers – and if you are new to this blog, please subscribe in a reader or by email updates! *** Come by for a visit and check out my other blogs:The Social Poets - news, politicsThe Soul Calendar - science, astronomy, psychologyVisual Insights - photos, art, musicBeautiful Illustrated Quotations - spiritual quotes, philosophyPoems From A Spiritual Heart - poetryThe Healing Waters - health newsDennys People Watching - people in the newsDennys Food and RecipesDennys Funny Quotes - humor

Obama Family Photos and New Michelle Obama Portrait Unveiled
*** Enjoy the new First Lady portrait and a few other well done photographs of the First Family.
New Smithsonian portraitFrom Denny: Well, one good thing about the month of August, the country takes a break from screamer politics for a few weeks. This insufferable summer heat makes for quick tempers best left simmering in the shade sometimes. There are times when you really have to wonder about the so-called wedge issues that get promoted by callous political strategists in place of solving the country's serious problems like 20 million people out of work.On the lighter side of politics is this new unveiling of the First Lady's portrait at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington. It's part of a new exhibit called "Americans Now" that features famous folks from science, business, government and the arts. President Barack Obama is also featured. However, this is the first time Michelle Obama's individual portrait - not just a family one or standing with her husband - has been shown at the gallery.Who else is featured with the Obamas in this exhibit? Try actors Tom Hanks and George Clooney, and music artists Willie Nelson and LL Cool J and NBA star LeBron James. Video portraits of America's favorite late-night comedians include Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien and David Letterman. You can view the portraits through July 2011.Here are a few of the best photos of the Obamas:
Michelle Obama in 2009 - apparently the first First Lady to bare her arms fashion wise for an official portrait. She's probably the first First Lady to be so physically fit too! :)
Wonderful family portrait - a regular love fest with Daddy going on here! :)

Obama Sends Thousands More Jobs Out of America: Mexico
*** Prez Obama tricked by GM to send thousands of jobs out of America and to Mexico.
New GM CEO Dan Akersan is from the Carlyle Group, famous for sending American jobs overseasFrom Denny: Here's what is really happening and how the President got snookered by Big Business, namely the auto makers and, in particular, General Motors. GM just reported their best quarterly profit in six years: $33 billion. Yet they are suddenly changing out their CEO to a guy who is with the Carlyle Group. What is the reputation of the Carlyle Group? These guys are a bunch of snakes. They are known for shipping jobs overseas. As soon as this new GM CEO, Dan Akerson, was announced GM made a move to create a new plant in Mexico to the tune of a $500 million investment. Those are American jobs getting shipped out of the country yet again by Big Business. Team Obama did a lousy job and did sloppy negotiations nor did they hold Big Business to the fire to do more than save jobs. They did not get any commitments from the auto industry, namely General Motors and Chrysler, to create jobs. And, so, the American taxpayers who footed the bill for all these bailouts gets the reward of thousands of their jobs getting sent out of the country. It's time for Team Obama to step up and defend the American worker and take back those jobs - and those tax breaks for American Big Business who stiff arm us. As it is, the jobs that need to be created to get us back to a stable economy is huge: the astounding number of 22 million.
How Male Journalists Fight: Whiz All Over Each Other
*** American male journalists in the Democratic Party and the White House fuss and fight each other while the public is frustrated about the economy.
Press Secretary Robert Gibbs who should be reporting the news - not becoming the newsFrom Denny: It's roll your eyes time. "The children" are fighting it out in public. What is it when men get a little bit of power they start the whizzing contests of who can whiz farther than their competitor? If it isn't White House "behavior problems" it's progressive writers "behavior problems" lobbing word grenades at each other like it's a silly comedy movie for thirteen year olds. You all should be embarrassed - or taken to the woodshed. Your squabbling while the country is in dire economic straits looks like a bunch of frat boys careening around town on their father's wallet - only this time it's on the taxpayers' wallet. And the public's perception is there is far too much entitlement going on here in government and the media. This "Mama Grizzly" is not too pleased. Don't make me come up to the Big House and box your ears and bounce you off a few walls, chic slapping you so hard you end up into next week. Apologize to each other like grown-ups. Kiss and make up - and make damn sure it looks convincing so the Democratic Party doesn't come off looking like a bunch of Bozo Sapiens. And, while you are at it, tell your obnoxious egos to shut up and sit down. There is governing to do in this great country.

Earth to White House: Why You Are Getting Criticized
*** The White House is complaining it is not appreciated enough for what it has done. Here's why fellow Democrats are angry with the President.
Press Secretary Gibbs' TiradeFrom Denny: Today there was quite the tirade from Press Secretary Gibbs about how this White House is getting criticized from every angle, especially sectors of its own party. While I can understand Gibbs' "AlaDamnBama" Southern temper, as well as his frustration working in a White House during a time when the country is on its knees, the outburst was not his best moment. Democratic base is unhappy with corporate-pleasing politicians in their own partyThe entire Democratic Party is furious with this White House. Why? Because Obama campaigned on one thing and did not deliver any of it. They make promises that are always in the future instead of in the present. They have put off any real hard-charging agenda to create jobs or arm twist Big Business into doing right by employees. The list is practically endless how Big Business, Big Banks, credit card companies, health care insurance and the rest of the insurance industry have escaped any consequences for their actions. The public option health care was promised during the campaign and never delivered so Americans still over pay for health care. All of these are pocketbook issues for the average American and we just can't afford to absorb any more expenses for anything. We, in the Gulf Coast region and especially Louisiana, have been absorbing huge rising costs since Hurricane Katrina hit back in August 2005. That's five years of constant hardship along with more piled on recently from the oil spill and a weak economy with huge job losses. And you wonder why you are getting criticized?Prez Obama worked on bipartisanship with Republicans that has failed with the "Party of No!"While it is understandable this President meant well to try and bring down the political temperature in Washington by constantly wooing the Republicans, well, clearly it's time to give up the romance after an eighteen month courtship. Republicans will never like a Democratic President, especially a black one which is clear while viewing the increasing rate of their racist hysteria barfing all over America promoted in the Tea Party rallies. As long as people choose to hold onto racism no President is going to win on that front. This country will just have to wait for the racists to die off in this generation.Iraq War still continues for far too longBut what this President can do is fulfill his promises to his own party who elected him: stop the Iraq War. Is it any wonder that when the President announced the ending of the Iraq War starts on 31 August 2010 that the news story was met with a thud in the media and blogosphere? We have had far too many promises and great speeches from this White House that went three steps forward and then five steps backward. In short, Prez Obama's credibility is on the line. The famous quotation that applies here is this: "What you do thunders so loudly I can't hear what you are saying."Addressing the stresses of the Iraq War on the troopsInstead of allowing this Iraq War business to drag out yet another eighteen months before all the troops are out of Iraq, rush it up and have them all out by Christmas. No kidding. These troops who have been fighting in Iraq need some serious time out to power down and relieve excessive stress. In fact, as they come home the military needs to get serious and keep them on base for another six to eight months as they debrief them and get them some serious PTSD counseling before allowing them to go home to their families. Families can be allowed to visit during this transition time - but visit at the base or detention area. It's important to make sure each and every soldier coming back can handle the stress of transition back into American culture. If you have never lived overseas then you may not understand it takes time to get your head back into the home culture. That process is severely impaired when a person has been at war for years, on several tours of duty. They could be a menace to themselves, their families and the public if this troop return is not properly handled. Too many of our troops are committing suicide because of the effects of this war. We need to be mindful of their stress and their medical needs when they first arrive - not after the fact when something horrific has occurred.Afghanistan WarFor a time it looks like the Afghan War will have to continue until we route the Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Maybe we will get lucky and this Mother Nature flooding will have done a lot of the job for us. It's a lot more difficult to be a rough and tough Taliban guy when you got flooded out, your family is either dead or displaced, relief supplies are unable to get to you because of washed out bridges and roads, you don't have any food and are just trying to survive day to day. This disaster certainly reduces the amount of Taliban supporters and Taliban troops our military will have to fight.Fast track the end to the Afghan WarEven so, there has to be an early time table on this war too. The American taxpayer is no longer made of money with the majority of the high-paying jobs now outsourced out of America. The American treasury just isn't taking in the big money it once did. Historically, what always bankrupts a country is war, especially long wars like the ones America has fought. What George Bush started Barack Obama needs to finish and finish quickly. The public is weary of war and the devastating effects upon our economy and our psyche. If this President wants the public to get optimistic about what this White House has done to slow the slide of shed jobs, then he has to do something dramatic to give people relief. Constant war just doesn't make for happy people by any one's definition.Do these Democrats deserve to remain in power? If this Democratic political team is not mentally tough enough to handle the nation's problems and fulfill what they promised their voters - and keeps whining about not feeling appreciated - then perhaps they should think seriously about abdicating their power. The military in the Iraq and Afghan Wars have been dealing with extreme horrific stress for year after year yet you don't hear them whining when they certainly have earned whining rights. If this White House cannot deal with a mere eighteen months of stress then you are not the leaders you believe yourselves to be. Time for the federal government to use its power and hire AmericaThe nation is in dire disstress and everyone is looking to you to get your "A" game going in high gear. While it's obvious to everyone that turning around the jobs sector is virtually an impossible job to get done in record time, keeping the word "impossible" in the Democratic vocabulary just does not inspire confidence with the American public. The only way to turn around the jobs sector is for the government to start hiring by the thousands for public works like was done under President Roosevelt during the Great Depression. Where to find the money for hiring America Ending the hideously expensive two front wars will supply and free up the funds necessary to put Americans back to work. Yes, it's that simple to be the super hero of the day. Even so, you are still looking at a five to seven year transition for the currently unemployed to be employed long enough to affect the economy positively. It's better than what this White House is facing now: fifteen years before any real recovery. Rebuild America's infrastructureSpeed up the process by directly hiring the unemployed into government work projects necessary all across the nation. Our infrastructure is groaning under the lack of maintenance and upgrading needs: highways, interstates, lakes, oceans, ports, trains, airports, bridges, energy plants from the coal to electrical to nuclear; the list is long - and I haven't started on the military needs like upgrading the deteriorating Coast Guard fleet that is held together with the equivalent of duct tape. Time for this White House to invest in fellow Americans: hire them directlyWe have the manpower to throw at all these problems if our government will only invest in its own people. The Democrats should not be afraid to invest in our own people, fretting over what the critics will say or do. This White House cannot wait for Big Business to do the job. Our own government must do this job of putting America back to work. It will create buzz. It will create more than hope. It will create a positive atmosphere again for that's what this country is missing: its joy.Journalist discussing Press Secretary Gibbs outburst of this White House getting criticized and feeling the pressure from his own Democrats

What Is Prez Obama Really Thinking? Watch His Hands As He Talks
*** Our body language reveals much about our thoughts, telegraphing it to others if only we learn the language and how to read it.
President Obama's hand gesturesFrom Denny: Are you right or left hand dominant? President Obama is left hand dominant and when he wants to discuss his favorite things he favors using his left hand to gesture. Left hand dominant people studiedScientists have studied the left-hand dominant like the President. Researchers discovered that left-handers tend to favor their left hand when discussing any subject of which they feel positive. Left-handers use their right hand to gesture when they feel negative about a subject. Are you a right-hand dominant? Then the results are the opposite: you use your right hand to gesture when you feel positive and your left hand when you feel negative.Researchers studied last two presidential election candidatesThis study was published in PloS ONE. Scientists studied tapes from the final American presidential debates from 2004 and 2008. They were wondering if they could spot a right or left hand bias gesture from the candidates. A curious fact here: in the 2004 election both candidates were right hand dominant. In the 2008 election both candidates were left hand dominant. We talk with our handsYou know what they say, "Americans talk with their hands, especially politicians - and angry women." Politicians unconsciously telegraphed their true feelings by use of their hand gestures. An interesting observation from this study about candidate Obama was that when he spoke about health care passionately he used his left hand to gesture, indicating he felt positive about the subject. When talking about the Iraq War he gestured with his right hand, indicating he felt negative about the subject.President George Bush is right hand dominant. When he felt positive about a subject he favored his right hand. When he felt negative about a subject he favored his left hand.Positive associations with our dominant hand, negative with our less dominant handWhat's funny about this study is that it also revealed that people tend to have negative or positive associations with which hand is dominant. If you are right-hand dominant you are more inclined to believe things on the right are "good," while anything oriented to the left like people or images are "bad." With left-hand dominant people the opposite is true.Amusing findings from volunteer studyHere's what was really amusing during the study. The study volunteers were shown a drawing. In this drawing was a group of space aliens sitting side by side. The perception reached? Those who were right hand dominant concluded that those aliens on the right end of the picture were supposedly smarter, happier, more honest and more attractive than the aliens on the left side of the picture. Left hand dominant folks preferred the aliens on the left side of the picture, viewing them in the same positive light."Overall, the data support the idea that people associate good things with the side of the body they can use most fluently – dominant is fluent, and fluent is good," says the study’s lead author Daniel Casasanto of the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen, Netherlands."It’s a good example of how our bodies influence the way we think without our ever knowing anything about it," says Diane Halpern, a professor of psychology at Claremont McKenna College.Body language observation a handy quick lie detectorTalk about an easy quick and handy lie detector. Think of all the situations it could be used: political campaigns, a cheating spouse or your boss. The next time you get an evaluation at work, pay very close attention to their hand gestures to know their true feelings. *** Check out the latest cartoon responses to the world news, especially the WikiLeaks fiasco.
House Speaker Pelosi's ethics problem with Rangel of New York. It's past high time the House also take the dirty politicians to task from the Republican side of the aisle. Of course, there may be no one left to represent the Republicans once she does that. And people complain politics in Louisiana are dirty...

The economy is ever present on every one's minds:

... said the consumer to the Big Banker in their bed, living in their house...
Republicans and their precious Tea Party fanatics:

Somehow BP CEO Hayward fits right in...
Democrats in November... maybe, maybe not if they light a fire under their butts...
Arizona's Immigration Law and the federal government challenge

Scumbag yellow journalism from WikiLeaks that the fallout is killing people, especially Afghans who helped America, Britain and other countries. The Afghans are trying to survive every day and help their country. Along come the WikiLeaks creeps who thinks it's OK to publish their names, pointing a finger and giving their locations to the Taliban to come maim, torture and kill them, rape their wives and their daughters and kill both their immediate and extended families. Yeah, WikiLeak founder Assange and his team deserve the same fate they doled out to these folks:
