Obama Sends Thousands More Jobs Out of America: Mexico

*** Prez Obama tricked by GM to send thousands of jobs out of America and to Mexico.New GM CEO Dan Akersan is from the Carlyle Group, famous for sending American jobs overseasFrom Denny: Here's what is really happening and how the President got snookered by Big Business, namely the auto makers and, in particular, General Motors. GM just reported their best quarterly profit in six years: $33 billion. Yet they are suddenly changing out their CEO to a guy who is with the Carlyle Group. What is the reputation of the Carlyle Group? These guys are a bunch of snakes. They are known for shipping jobs overseas. As soon as this new GM CEO, Dan Akerson, was announced GM made a move to create a new plant in Mexico to the tune of a $500 million investment. Those are American jobs getting shipped out of the country yet again by Big Business. Team Obama did a lousy job and did sloppy negotiations nor did they hold Big Business to the fire to do more than save jobs. They did not get any commitments from the auto industry, namely General Motors and Chrysler, to create jobs. And, so, the American taxpayers who footed the bill for all these bailouts gets the reward of thousands of their jobs getting sent out of the country. It's time for Team Obama to step up and defend the American worker and take back those jobs - and those tax breaks for American Big Business who stiff arm us. As it is, the jobs that need to be created to get us back to a stable economy is huge: the astounding number of 22 million.

Earth to White House: Why You Are Getting Criticized

*** The White House is complaining it is not appreciated enough for what it has done. Here's why fellow Democrats are angry with the President.Press Secretary Gibbs' TiradeFrom Denny: Today there was quite the tirade from Press Secretary Gibbs about how this White House is getting criticized from every angle, especially sectors of its own party. While I can understand Gibbs' "AlaDamnBama" Southern temper, as well as his frustration working in a White House during a time when the country is on its knees, the outburst was not his best moment. Democratic base is unhappy with corporate-pleasing politicians in their own partyThe entire Democratic Party is furious with this White House. Why? Because Obama campaigned on one thing and did not deliver any of it. They make promises that are always in the future instead of in the present. They have put off any real hard-charging agenda to create jobs or arm twist Big Business into doing right by employees. The list is practically endless how Big Business, Big Banks, credit card companies, health care insurance and the rest of the insurance industry have escaped any consequences for their actions. The public option health care was promised during the campaign and never delivered so Americans still over pay for health care. All of these are pocketbook issues for the average American and we just can't afford to absorb any more expenses for anything. We, in the Gulf Coast region and especially Louisiana, have been absorbing huge rising costs since Hurricane Katrina hit back in August 2005. That's five years of constant hardship along with more piled on recently from the oil spill and a weak economy with huge job losses. And you wonder why you are getting criticized?Prez Obama worked on bipartisanship with Republicans that has failed with the "Party of No!"While it is understandable this President meant well to try and bring down the political temperature in Washington by constantly wooing the Republicans, well, clearly it's time to give up the romance after an eighteen month courtship. Republicans will never like a Democratic President, especially a black one which is clear while viewing the increasing rate of their racist hysteria barfing all over America promoted in the Tea Party rallies. As long as people choose to hold onto racism no President is going to win on that front. This country will just have to wait for the racists to die off in this generation.Iraq War still continues for far too longBut what this President can do is fulfill his promises to his own party who elected him: stop the Iraq War. Is it any wonder that when the President announced the ending of the Iraq War starts on 31 August 2010 that the news story was met with a thud in the media and blogosphere? We have had far too many promises and great speeches from this White House that went three steps forward and then five steps backward. In short, Prez Obama's credibility is on the line. The famous quotation that applies here is this: "What you do thunders so loudly I can't hear what you are saying."Addressing the stresses of the Iraq War on the troopsInstead of allowing this Iraq War business to drag out yet another eighteen months before all the troops are out of Iraq, rush it up and have them all out by Christmas. No kidding. These troops who have been fighting in Iraq need some serious time out to power down and relieve excessive stress. In fact, as they come home the military needs to get serious and keep them on base for another six to eight months as they debrief them and get them some serious PTSD counseling before allowing them to go home to their families. Families can be allowed to visit during this transition time - but visit at the base or detention area. It's important to make sure each and every soldier coming back can handle the stress of transition back into American culture. If you have never lived overseas then you may not understand it takes time to get your head back into the home culture. That process is severely impaired when a person has been at war for years, on several tours of duty. They could be a menace to themselves, their families and the public if this troop return is not properly handled. Too many of our troops are committing suicide because of the effects of this war. We need to be mindful of their stress and their medical needs when they first arrive - not after the fact when something horrific has occurred.Afghanistan WarFor a time it looks like the Afghan War will have to continue until we route the Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Maybe we will get lucky and this Mother Nature flooding will have done a lot of the job for us. It's a lot more difficult to be a rough and tough Taliban guy when you got flooded out, your family is either dead or displaced, relief supplies are unable to get to you because of washed out bridges and roads, you don't have any food and are just trying to survive day to day. This disaster certainly reduces the amount of Taliban supporters and Taliban troops our military will have to fight.Fast track the end to the Afghan WarEven so, there has to be an early time table on this war too. The American taxpayer is no longer made of money with the majority of the high-paying jobs now outsourced out of America. The American treasury just isn't taking in the big money it once did. Historically, what always bankrupts a country is war, especially long wars like the ones America has fought. What George Bush started Barack Obama needs to finish and finish quickly. The public is weary of war and the devastating effects upon our economy and our psyche. If this President wants the public to get optimistic about what this White House has done to slow the slide of shed jobs, then he has to do something dramatic to give people relief. Constant war just doesn't make for happy people by any one's definition.Do these Democrats deserve to remain in power? If this Democratic political team is not mentally tough enough to handle the nation's problems and fulfill what they promised their voters - and keeps whining about not feeling appreciated - then perhaps they should think seriously about abdicating their power. The military in the Iraq and Afghan Wars have been dealing with extreme horrific stress for year after year yet you don't hear them whining when they certainly have earned whining rights. If this White House cannot deal with a mere eighteen months of stress then you are not the leaders you believe yourselves to be. Time for the federal government to use its power and hire AmericaThe nation is in dire disstress and everyone is looking to you to get your "A" game going in high gear. While it's obvious to everyone that turning around the jobs sector is virtually an impossible job to get done in record time, keeping the word "impossible" in the Democratic vocabulary just does not inspire confidence with the American public. The only way to turn around the jobs sector is for the government to start hiring by the thousands for public works like was done under President Roosevelt during the Great Depression. Where to find the money for hiring America Ending the hideously expensive two front wars will supply and free up the funds necessary to put Americans back to work. Yes, it's that simple to be the super hero of the day. Even so, you are still looking at a five to seven year transition for the currently unemployed to be employed long enough to affect the economy positively. It's better than what this White House is facing now: fifteen years before any real recovery. Rebuild America's infrastructureSpeed up the process by directly hiring the unemployed into government work projects necessary all across the nation. Our infrastructure is groaning under the lack of maintenance and upgrading needs: highways, interstates, lakes, oceans, ports, trains, airports, bridges, energy plants from the coal to electrical to nuclear; the list is long - and I haven't started on the military needs like upgrading the deteriorating Coast Guard fleet that is held together with the equivalent of duct tape. Time for this White House to invest in fellow Americans: hire them directlyWe have the manpower to throw at all these problems if our government will only invest in its own people. The Democrats should not be afraid to invest in our own people, fretting over what the critics will say or do. This White House cannot wait for Big Business to do the job. Our own government must do this job of putting America back to work. It will create buzz. It will create more than hope. It will create a positive atmosphere again for that's what this country is missing: its joy.Journalist discussing Press Secretary Gibbs outburst of this White House getting criticized and feeling the pressure from his own Democrats

Speaker Pelosi Champions Unemployed, Orders House Back From Vacation

*** Speaker Pelosi relentlessly drives hard to pass two important bills: keep teachers in the classrooms and hire the unemployed out of work for two years.Nancy "Give 'Em Hell" Pelosi takes no prisoners in CongressFrom Denny: Go get 'em, Nancy! Now THIS is government at work! "I will be calling the House back into session early next week to save teachers' jobs and help seniors & children," Pelosi said via Twitter this afternoon. From CBS: "The measure extends programs enacted in the stimulus package, with $16 billion for state health care programs and $10 billion to help school boards avoid teacher layoffs."Two bills: Medicaid, avoid teacher layoffs and funding for longest unemployedWhat's going on? House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ordered House members back to work to pass important pending bills, like first to pass a funding package for Medicaid and teachers. There's another bill in the Senate she is also motivating Senators to pass, most notably for the folks known as The 99ers, people who have been out of work for the past two years and no longer receive any unemployment benefits.Congress was scheduled for an entire month on holiday during August while other Americans face horrific financial and employment struggles. Well, The 99ers got smart and finally organized as a political group. They have threatened to take their case to the polls in November. Now we're talking about getting the attention of lawmakers.Unemployed for as long as two years: The 99ersAs you read this post, every day there are an additional 50,000 people who fall off the unemployment benefits roll because they no longer qualify after receiving benefits for the duration of 99 weeks. Unemployment is unprecedented in America since 70 years ago during The Great Depression. Big Business continues to insult the American worker, sending their jobs overseas. Big Business continues to screw over The Middle Class workerBig Business also imports foreign workers through unchecked visa programs like Microsoft set up with President Bush - and the practice continues today as Prez Obama has not stemmed the tide. That's where all the high tech jobs went: Americans got kicked to the side while foreign workers, willing to work for lower wages and no real benefits, filled the jobs in America. Gee, if billionaire Bill Gates of Microsoft wants to give away half his fortune like he claims, why doesn't he do something about the very mess he created where he displaced thousands of American workers every year for a decade?Russia paid a visit to Silicon Valley to recruit back their tech people from AmericaYou only had to watch the news a few weeks ago as the Russian President came to America to visit, you guessed it, Russian high tech workers in Silicon Valley. Clearly, Putin is trying to sweet talk the Russians home so they can reverse engineer our American technology for free. The Russian workers were suspicious and fearful of their President trying to woo them back home. Yeah, I would not want to go back to that after living in America either. The problem is that we have plenty of Americans who qualify for those high tech jobs and yet they are denied those same jobs because foreign workers on visa programs are filling them.New unemployment Senate billIntroduced by Senator Debbie Stabenow, Democrat, Michigan, and co-sponsored by Senator Charles Schumer, Democrat, New York, is a new bill to finally come to the rescue and help The 99ers. This bill extends unemployment benefits for an additional 20 weeks. They did not leave it at that as they have added incentives to the employers to get motivated to hire those who have been out of work the longest. As it stands, Big Business has ordered employment agencies to reject for consideration interviews anyone who is out of work. In order to get hired a prospective employee must already have a job.Incentives for employers to hire The 99ersThe Hire Act will be extending tax cuts as well as increase tax cuts for an additional year to those businesses that hire these four to five million people currently out of work for two years. Now THIS is a great idea for jobs creation. Tax incentives + tax breaks = jobs creation. This bill is now called the Americans Want to Work Act.

*** Update 5 Aug 2010: Senate Passes Bill to Save Teacher, Police Jobs - The House Reconvenes Next Week to Take Up $26 Billion Measure, which Won't Increase Budget Deficit. This just passed the Senate, preserving about 300,000 jobs across America by extending programs in last year's stimulus plan. It passed by the vote of 61 - 39. That was after months of stalling tactics by the heartless Republicans. The House votes on it next week for a final vote to send this bill to the President.*** THANKS for visiting, feel welcome to drop a comment or opinion, enjoy bookmarking this post on your favorite social site, a big shout out to awesome current subscribers – and if you are new to this blog, please subscribe in a reader or by email updates! *** Come by for a visit and check out my other blogs:The Social Poets - news, politicsThe Soul Calendar - science, astronomy, psychologyVisual Insights - photos, art, musicBeautiful Illustrated Quotations - spiritual quotes, philosophyPoems From A Spiritual Heart - poetryThe Healing Waters - health newsDennys People Watching - people in the newsDennys Food and RecipesDennys Funny Quotes - humor

Unemployed About To Get Relief, Brit PM Visit, Fox Lies About Govt Official - News Headlines 20 July 2010

*** Check out Brit's PM remarks offering odious BP cover and meet the new Senate replacement for West Virginia's Byrd whose first vote broke the Republican filibuster. From Denny: With the new temporary Senate replacement from West Virginia voting, Carte Goodwin, finally the Democrats broke the Republican filibuster on the unemployment benefits extension. Yet the story is still not finished. More voting on the way, though now the Democrats have their 60 votes to prevent another filibuster. Still, these poor folks who are growing increasingly desperate wait another few weeks even if the vote is decided this week. Why? It will take that long for the states to parcel out the checks - which could take anywhere from two to four weeks to do. The unemployment benefits have already been held up for two months now; another month is unconscionable. Unemployment Filibuster BrokenBritain's New Prime Minister Visits AmericaBritain's new Prime Minister, David Cameron, was visiting here to try and downplay the obnoxious bad behavior of British Petroleum in our country by acknowledging our collective national anger. He should have stopped at that sentence. Attempting to separate two explosive political stories was simply not wise. Sometimes, the less said the better. Trying to give BP cover was not his best move. Cameron comes across as a decent guy with the right intent so I'll give him a pass for now since he is so new on the job. He would do well to watch the tapes of his speech and then read the American bloggers to gauge our reactions. BP is a despicable corporate culture of which nothing has been done to change it. PM Cameron would do well to turn his attention to his own countrymen than try to assuage American anger.British PM says he understands the anger 'across America' for BPObama, British PM: Bomber Release Not BP's DoingObama, Britain's Cameron condemn Lockerbie bomber release, say it wasn't their doing or BP'sBP Oil Spill doings in the GulfEveryone here in the Gulf is waiting to find out more about those leaking wells that supposedly are not the Deepwater Horizon well. Who cares which well? After all, there are 29,000 aging temporarily capped wells in the Gulf right now. If it's leaking then it's leaking. The question is just how much it is leaking? If it's minimal then the ocean can deal with it but if not...Is experimental cap making disaster worse?Feds Tamp Down Fears Leaks Mean BP Well UnstableFeds tamp down fears leaky well cap, nearby seepage mean BP's blown out well is unstableHere's a real shocker for you: South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsay Graham actually voted FOR Elena Kagan and with the Democrats to advance her nomination to a vote. Guess he felt guilty - or didn't like the bad press the bloggers like me gave him for his nasty attitude and caustic anti-Semitic remarks toward her during the hearings - so he reversed and did right by her after all. Well, what can I say? When a person decides to quit being a jerk and do right you have to stand up and applaud them. There is nothing like watching someone who recognizes they did not give their best of heart to a situation and then chooses to live better. Graham joins panel's Dems to approve KaganBoy, the Democrats stepped right into this fool's errand. I would have expected better from former Gov. Vilsack. What was he thinking? He should have been wiser than this. You don't just call up one of your accused officials, order her to the side of the road as she was driving, and tell her she is fired. It's bad judgment.First of all, there should have been a cooling off period so you could verify the charges and check out the character of the folks making the charges. This is what is so bad about the older generation in government who are not technology savvy enough to realize this whole mess could have been Photoshop edited. Duh. While it's great the White House wants to be seen as intolerant of racism whichever way it goes and wants to be seen as on top of things, this was not a wise response. Rather it was a fearful angry knee jerk response. Had I been in his position, the first thing I would have done would be to place her on administrative leave for 7 to 10 days while I investigated the charges and the character of the accusers. Once I realized Fox News, aka Liars News, was involved it would have been case closed. You have only to watch the recent news stories of how Republican strategist and villain Karl Rove has been sneaking around, doing his usual character assassination, to know he was involved. This was handled badly and a woman's reputation impugned. She has good reason to be angry and demanding an apology. Yet again it looks like President Obama has to play referee and parent to lay down what should be obvious rules of how you go about dealing with a situation. She deserves a heartfelt apology and reinstatement.Video Taken Out of Context? Why Obama Is Failing Miserably At Running America

*** America is ready to explode in despair and the economy take a nosedive if this White House does not change its game plan and jump into emergency mode.

The Summer of America's Discontent

From Denny: This summer in America will truly be remembered as The Summer Of Discontent. The American public - on both sides of the aisle - are just not happy with their government.

The Republicans are unhappy because they are not in charge. The Republicans are unhappy out in Arizona because the federal government has only done a pittance to guarantee their border safety. Right now, there are kidnappings and murders of regular citizens by Mexican drug dealers overrunning our borders.

Immigration and Violent Mexican Drug Cartels

The Homeland Security makes idiot comments like, "The border with Mexico is porous and we will never be able to plug all the holes." That isn't what people want to hear and it certainly isn't what a real leader does. You don't just throw up your hands and say, "Sorry, no can do!" Or worse, sit on your hands and do nothing or virtually nothing.

To solve the problem you throw federal funds out to the border states to hire hordes of police and then you send down hordes of federal border police agents to actually enforce border security. There is no excuse for lame excuses from our government. Americans should have a reasonable expectation of safety in their own backyards.

Then, to add insult to injury President Obama decides to sue Arizona over their idiot attempt at immigration law. If this White House had an ounce of sense they would have sat back and allowed the law to go into effect so that Arizona would have figured out on their own how difficult it would be to enforce. Obama isn't winning any votes among Hispanics whatsoever and killing votes among Independents and some Democrats.

He never was going to be successful at sweet talking any Republican voters. Republicans don't respond to sweet talk in the first place. They respond only to force and dominance. It's what makes them tick; it's what makes them feel safe and secure in this world. Bizarre but true. Don't look at me, folks, I'm just writing the honest truth of how some segments of American society roll.

The BP Gulf Oil Spill and Moratorium

Here's another non-winner with the populace. People in Louisiana and on the Gulf Coast are absolutely furious with BP and the federal government and the Coast Guard. It's like a bad TV comedy episode where no one can seem to get organized or in timing. Sort of like watching two people try to do the Tango dance and end up entangled and falling down on the floor, slipping while they try to get up. Yeah, it's that bad here on the Gulf Coast.

To add insult to injury Obama continues this idiot moratorium. During this time he has had since 22 April to get going on the safety inspections, his government is still in the planning phase of just how to go about hiring safety inspectors. They are worrying about how to retain said future safety inspectors once they train them in the complexities necessary. What have you got sitting around these tables? A bunch of PhD's with no tangible hands-on practical work experience? This is ludicrous.

You should have been pulling from all angles of the oil and gas industry and personnel from your own federal government, assessing your resources and putting them into the field. Worry about job retention later unless you get them to sign a legal document declaring they will work for you for the next ten years. Is there anything about common sense you do not understand?

The Oil Moratorium

What's worse about this oil drilling moratorium is that while the feds try to figure it out, they have thrown 300,000 people out of work in an instant. The monies from BP are a sad joke in slow motion as desperate people get more desperate. Families are breaking up, divorces, people are committing suicide all over this environmental disaster. If the feds are looking for someone to bring lawsuits against bring them against BP not other American citizens. When the economy is so miserable, shaky and uncertain the last thing a real leader does is go around suing their own citizens.

Obama is suing Arizona over immigration law. Obama is suing Louisiana over stopping this moratorium that has frozen our economy into a dead stop to the point it is affecting the rest of the state and neighboring states, the entire Gulf Coast region. It's unrealistic to expect BP to pay for it all. You have to turn the economy loose to operate. Your job, should you decide to accept it, is for the feds to slam those oil fields and overrun them with safety inspectors done yesterday.

America's Economy Fragile

Right now America's economy is teetering. It's teetering for a variety of reasons, most notably debt. Most of this debt did not come about from people being irresponsible and overspending. It came from the now over age 50 Baby Boomer generation thrown out of work by the millions by Big Business that sent jobs overseas by the millions.

The Baby Boomers have always affected every decade in America and are doing so now. Debts were run up onto credit cards after people depleted their savings and retirement plans. Credit cards are a last ditch effort to stay afloat for a small business or the out of work corporate executive whose company fired him because they didn't want to pay the bigger salary or give health benefits to an aging worker. "Can you hear me now?"

So, what does the Obama economic commission come out and say? Yeah, you guessed it. Let's tax the hell out of the middle class by refusing to keep taxes low. Those Bush tax cuts expire soon. Hold onto your hats, folks, come 1 January 2011 your federal taxes will skyrocket and capital gains taxes will jump to a whopping 20 percent. We have a Congress that is more concerned about the possible, OK, it's impending, mid-term election losses than in keeping our taxes in line with our incomes in this severely depressed economy.

Democrats not energized

Poll after poll expresses discontent and anger toward this President. People are angry that nothing positive has reached down into their everyday lives. No one gives a rat's ass about whether the Democrats will lose the House or not. Why? Because the Democrats have never delivered on any of their promises when they took office. We are still footing the hugely expensive bill for not just one, but two wars. We, the taxpayers, are footing the bill for idiot nation building as well. When will politicians finally fall out of love with nation building and quit bleeding us dry for money we no longer have to give?

This White House thinks they can continue to deliver pablum in the form of hollow speeches and the people will be content. How can you be so naive? No one is content when their lives are falling apart from job loss, being out of work for up to two years. The only way for everything to calm down is to get people back to work.

How this White House needs to change: fundamentally

Frankly, at this point, I don't hold out much hope for this Presidency to survive. I sometimes wonder if I'm the last person left standing who actually wants the Obama Presidency to do well but they sure aren't giving me anything to promote. They are too slow to react, too slow to accept what is in front of their faces and too little too late to deliver anything of substance.

Fundamentally, a government is supposed to govern. How do you govern? First, you assess what the people need not what Big Business demands. Corporate Republicans or corporate Democrats look the same to the middle class who are suffering greatly. The middle class has suffered for the past ten years. When the middle class suffers, then the poor suffer even more than they already do because it is the middle class that gives to food banks and charities, not the wealthy.

When I looked at the President's schedule today (link below) it really hit home as to why he is ineffective. He spends all his time talking to his political people about possible legislation and then an afternoon of fluff feel good small stuff. Legislation and idealistic talks are not what America needs right now. What we need is hands-on practical common sense projects aimed at putting people back to work.

Quit running the White House like a country club. What you should be doing, Mr. President, is turning the Oval Office into a War Room, an economic emergency war room. You need to establish emergency teams all over the country. Turn your office into a nerve center to field calls from all over the country. You need economic teams fanning out across America to gather information, assess priorities, establish what can be done quickly to hire and then the authority to turn it loose. Instead of political meetings in the morning you should be meeting with your emergency teams twice a day until it comes together and starts functioning as one team.

You need to assess parts of the budget where you can immediately strip monies - plenty of pork barrel projects to salvage - to fund public work projects to put people back to work. This economy - and its perception - is a war. You can't keep running from confrontation. That's just no longer an option. It's time to stand up and step up for your American people.

The federal government should be in the business of creating new businesses. The federal government should be in the business of creating new energy sources like solar farms all across America. There are plenty of bridges in dire need of repair and other large projects to supply jobs. Start with the temporary and we can worry about the permanent later as we transition. Doing little or nothing is worse. You just can't stand by and do so little.

American Revolt: How You Can Break Big Business, Big Banks, Big Insurance, Big Oil, Big Lobbyists

*** What you can do to break the yoke of Big Business, Big Banks, Big Insurance and Big Oil off your middle class necks. From Denny: Are you disgusted with your Big Bank credit card company jamming you up with outrageous minimum payment demands, feeing you to death and playing games with variable high interest rates without recourse or punishment for their actions? Are you fed up with the financial sector Wall Street hyenas' artificially inflated prices at the gas pump? Are you furious that Big Insurance keeps hiking up your health care premiums and other insurance products? Are you in a rage that Big Business lobbyists for Big Banks, Big Insurance and Big Oil have a stranglehold on our government? Are you unemployed and furious that Big Business lobbyists went to great lengths to deny you unemployment benefits extensions to pay your bills and put food on the table because they were too cheap to pay their portion of the benefits? Want to have the power to do something about it?Denny's Think Tank and Muffin MondayDenny's Think Tank, currently comprised of just two people and four Hurricane Katrina cats at our house - however, we are extending free membership to all my dear readers of all 14 blogs - well, we have been busy on the problem and come up with the solution. We like to "solve all the problems of the world" at our house every morning over coffee.Good ideas seem to evolve from one small act. That small act of mine, as a blogger, began with Muffin Monday recipe segments on the food blogs: Romancing The Chocolate, Unusual 2 Tasty and Comfort Food From Louisiana. I like muffins. Who doesn't? It's practically unpatriotic not to like muffins. Muffins are easy to make for beginner bakers. Muffins are popular in America, and, as a blogger, I was looking for non-copyright released recipes I could publish easily. Researching there was found a treasure trove of good recipes, ones tweaked - and therefore changed from the originals - from what I realized had been previous Gourmet, Epicurious, Food and Wine and Bon Appetit recipes from the past 20 years. Yes, foodies read too many glossy magazines. It must be the awesome photos. :)The treasure trove of good recipes was found at various bed and breakfast inn sites so I decided how cool it would be to do more than provide a courtesy link to their business but rather to start promoting them because they are small businesses. Big Business has run so many small businesses out of business the past 20 years that America has become this boring homogenized vast wasteland of mediocre choices. I've watched wonderful local colorful grocery stores, pharmacies, hardware stores, restaurants and clothing stores all get broken by Big Business just in my area. Ruthless Big Business continues to break small businessesThe one exception I have to say that behaves better for Big Business is the Whole Foods grocery chain. When they came to Baton Rouge, Louisiana they took a look at the surrounding Mom and Pop grocery stores and did not undercut their prices on matching products they carried. Whole Foods also supports the local farmers and buys up all the fruits, nuts, vegetables and meats they can produce. I'm sure they are not perfect but at least they make a conscious effort not to cause bad economic ripples in the community where they plant themselves. That said, the vast majority of Big Business is ruthless. Lately, they have gotten just too ruthless by sending thousands of jobs overseas after receiving taxpayer government monies. (That was General Motors, folks, who took our money and then cut 5,000 jobs that went overseas this year.) Big Business continues to think they can cut thousands of jobs, send them overseas and yet there will be people left in our country who can afford to buy their products. What kind of logic is this? The only answer is unadulterated greed - and a CEO who wants to make his quarterly BOB: Big Obscene Bonus. What you can do to break Big BusinessWe Americans continue to grouse, complain and outright bitch to our political representatives and the courts only to be lied to, taken advantage of and denied fairness and justice. So, what is a self-respecting American and rabble rouser to do to gain back their power in their own country? Easy. Support ONLY small businesses like these bed and breakfast inns whenever you travel for business or pleasure. Their prices are comparable to Big Business hotel chains and so are the amenities, local attractions and shopping. The beauty of this strategy of supporting bed and breakfast inns over Big Business hotels is that Big Banks and Big Insurance finance the mortgages on these Big Business hotels. Right now commercial real estate has taken a nose dive, hence, the reason the Big Banks took bailouts from the American taxpayers. In fact, the Big Banks unloaded all their toxic assets - like foreclosed homes and small businesses - onto and for the American government to absorb - in addition to taking billions of dollars plunked down onto their profit line. World leader fools, minus Obama, from the G20 Meeting who are bankrupting the world economy by rejecting the governmental Spend Money economic model: Frustration with American politiciansBig Business controls our government on so many levels. We are reduced to waiting for each election cycle in the hopes of throwing out the corrupt politicians. Yet, at the end of the day, the Big Business lobbyists continue to do business in Washington, ignoring the voters' wishes and now desperate needs.Achilles Heels of Big Business, Big Banks, Big Insurance, Big Oil and Big LobbyistsThe one weakness these powerful behemoths have in common is us. If we all - or at least 15 percent of the country - refuse to do business with them it will destroy their businesses. Most huge companies run on about a two percent to 15 percent profit margin to stay in business. Surprising, isn't it? Auto dealers run on a two percent profit margin. It's the manufacturers who screw them over as small businesses so they pass it on to screw over the customers. It's an ugly cycle.Facebook BP Protesters SucceededOver 300,000 people banned together on Facebook to protest BP gas stations, refusing to buy their product. In my town where we have an Exxon oil refinery, the price of gas is outrageous. BP's prices are often as much as 75 cents higher than Exxon and Shell. People say by protesting BP gas stations you are hurting the American owners. I say, "You lie down with dogs you get fleas." It's time for people to make a choice if they will be truly patriotic and do what helps all of America or keep choosing their profit wallets over the dire straits of the economy. These BP protesters succeeded in driving down the value of BP's stock to half of what it had been before the oil spill. If we support small businesses and shut out Big Businesses as much as possible we can break their high stock values as well. Think of all the Walmarts that drove out dozens of small businesses. Originally, from the 30 year old model, Big Businesses like Walmart were supposed to offer better prices to American shoppers. But, over time, those prices have risen and poor quality products from child labor and prisoner inmate labor countries have flooded our markets. The Chinese use prison laborers and give us toxic lead paint toys. India uses child labor to produce rugs and clothing. Meanwhile, our textile factories across America close and thousands of people lost their jobs.Hope is still here if only we will act and take back our powerThe sad stories are endless. But, so also is Hope: endless. We can change things in this country if enough of us will band together and use our power as consumers to break all the Big Businesses. You break the Big Businesses - and the Big Banks who finance them also fall with them. When the Big Business and Big Banks fall then so too do the Big Lobbyists with no one to pay them outrageous money to hijack our government with economic terrorism.Break Big Banks by moving your checking accounts to small and medium sized banksAnother way to break Big Banks is to move your checking accounts to federal credit unions and other regional and local medium and small sized banks. Only Big Banks get the best interest rates and then they jack up their prices and lend to the medium and small banks, virtually holding them hostage. So why does the Federal Reserve not give the same great interest prices to the small and medium sized banks? The Fed remains quiet on that one and has in every administration. There is no excuse for it. Big Banks continue to hold a monopoly in our country, strangling the economy with their greedy and unwise practices.Small Business Employs most of AmericaRemember, the statistics tell us that somewhere between 70 to 80 percent of Americans work for small businesses. Small businesses also keep the jobs here in America unlike the Big Businesses. It's time to run Big Businesses out of business or succeed in breaking them up into smaller less damaging entities. Either way the American consumer wins because the small businesses will get more business and have to start hiring the unemployed. Hiring the unemployed will jump start our economy. It will make it possible to rebuild America into a thriving economy. We will no longer be co-dependent upon the whims of Big Business and our corrupt corporate-loving politicians who fawn at their arrogant diva feet.
