Is The Middle Class Almost Extinct in America?

*** How long was today's chaotic economy in the making and how is it destroying the American middle class wealth? From Denny: The Republicans and Big Business keep gambling with the lives of middle class people. It is no longer any big secret that Big Business, and business in general, need to hire people back to do the work. What business is doing is playing an ugly game of delay with the American middle class worker, wearing them down until they will accept half their original pay for the same work because they are so desperate to survive in this chaotic economy. In other words, if the actual living wage was say $60,000 a year that same job is now only paying a mere $30,000. It isn't possible for people to survive on less when housing prices are still high, food prices are high, gasoline prices are insane and the list goes on that the pricing structure has not lowered to meet the salary structure. But the corporate fat cats just don't care they have bankrupted the middle class. That's their point: they want to reduce the prosperous middle class back down into the working class model where they could be as cavalier as they want with wages, health care benefits, retirement benefits and job security. The Republicans have virtually succeeded at breaking the unions that once fought for middle class wages. Foolishly, many middle class voted against themselves on a wide range of issues, bringing this down onto the heads of everyone. They fed the Greed Beast without realizing that one day that Greed Beast would get so big there would no longer be any way to contain him. We are here at that day. Just take a look at the statistics for the quickly evaporating middle class:From 2001 to 2007 (President Bush years): 66 percent of income growth went to the top 1 percentAmong income earners: bottom 50 percent owns less than 1 percent of the wealthMinimum wage comparisons:Chinese garment worker makes 86 cents per hourCambodia garment worker makes 22 cents per hourUnited States minimum wage earner makes $7.25 per hourSource: Business InsiderJoan Walsh, editor in chief of Salon.com, discusses the war on the middle class in America:The top 1 percent in America grabbed two thirds of the income. They own 83 percent of all stock owned by Americans. These trends began under Republican President Ronald Reagan, beginning the erosion of the middle class. It was under Reagan that the idea began of hiring workers for only 32 hours a week so business did not have to pay benefits. Now, that idea is the corporate work model: denying a living wage to workers, denying retirement and health care benefits. She also said that 1981 is the beginning of tax cuts for the rich and record high debt, family income drops, income inequality soars, household incomes drop down steeply and the resulting household debt goes way up. All of these scenarios happened and continued under every Republican president. They improved somewhat under President Bill Clinton yet drove the middle class off the edge of the cliff when President Bush came into office. The middle class worker is up against job outsourcing and political parties pitting the public against each other so they never find out the historical truth that continues in our lives today.

More Lies From BP: Claims Fund on Empty

*** More about the latest insults from BP on the oil spill claims fund mess. From Denny: OK, BP, "Show me the money!" I knew these conniving rat bastards were up to no good. They claim to have struck a deal with President Obama to fund the claims fund at $5 billion per year to the total of at least $20 billion. BP went around spending millions on ad campaigns yet refused to fund the claims fund. BP claims they are dedicated to cleaning up the Gulf. It is plainly obvious now BP is NOT committed to paying what they agreed they owed the Gulf residents.Claims Fund Manager, Ken Feinberg, says he won't release any checks because he knows they will bounce. He keeps pleading like some sorry lost sheep, whining to the press about how naughty BP has been not putting money into the account. You have got to be kidding me. He looks ridiculous. Where is his backbone and outrage? He's a lawyer; he should be doing something more appropriate like at least making a citizen's arrest of the BP execs. If he won't, I sure will - and I'm confident I can find a few million other folks who will join me to arrest them. What is President Obama going to do about this shameful act from the oil industry?Did BP really think Louisianians and the rest of the Gulf coast would let them off the hook when they claimed they have already paid out $5 billion in costs for clean up? They really think they can walk away that easily? Not so fast, scumbags. The President has in his power to yank those lucrative contracts BP has with our military. Yes, BP, a foreign oil company, has the largest contract with our military - not an American company. What's wrong with this picture?Back in late May, near Memorial Day, the White House was livid about the one month old oil spill and wanted to start pulling some of those juicy contracts BP has with our government. Obama should have followed and trusted his instincts. Instead, BP lawyers sweet talked them out of it, claiming they would make everything right again. Yeah, right, and look where we are again after all these months: we have a federal moratorium on the Gulf that has strangled our economy to a standstill and as a result people all over the Gulf coast are struggling to pay their bills and put food on the table for just necessities. Middle class Americans have their own government fighting them on this moratorium that is imploding their local economy. A foreign oil company trashed our environment and several industries all in one day and thought they could just walk away with ease. We got hit from two sides. Where is our federal government when we need them? Apparently, nowhere in sight. No financial relief either. And this creep BP CEO Tony Hayward is still CEO until October. So, that means more lies, more misdirection and more games - and really bad public relations campaign TV ads we have to endure like salt in the wounds as the final insult.

Americans Sour on Economy, Obamas Better Plan to Manage Our Oceans - News Headlines 21 July 2010

*** Check out latest Great Recession poll taking the pulse of Americans and how we are not faring in this chaotic, virtually jobless - for those over age 40 - economy.

Recession Humor

From Denny: There's a lot going on in the world this excessively hot July and so I cranked down the air conditioning and turned higher the oscillating fan to start this write! :)

The recession has dragged on for so long that now comedians are doing recession humor stand-up. It's reminiscent of the Great Depression humor from the comedians in that generation. Hard times come and go but the laughs manage to always be there.

Environmentalists Hail Obama on New Ocean Agency

Recession humor enjoys global boom - Audiences are increasingly turning to comedy to ease the recession blues.

This was good news out of this White House. Prez Obama has a new plan to round up all the various agencies flung here and there and focus them together to properly manage America's oceans. It's about time someone did this. I guess it took an epic oil spill and environmental disaster to motivate the federal government to get serious on this project. Kudos to the Obama team for taking this on. It won't be easy to integrate all these agencies but at least this new measure is a great start at consolidating resources, knowledge and budgets.

What will it involve? It's a plan to bring everyone to the table, from the oil drilling companies to the fishermen to shipping and local politicians. The President's plan is to bring comprehensive stewardship to our oceans, the Great Lakes and coastal areas.

The smart thing about it is that there are no new federal rules to navigate. What is new is now to organize more effectively and efficiently there is the National Ocean Council (NOC) that will be comprised of federal agencies, state and regional groups. Coordination always means better communication and faster results for problem solving. The plan involves bringing everyone together to plan the future of the oceans, the Great Lakes and the coastal areas for wind farms, oil drilling and fishing.

There are some complainers in the mix: the fishermen who think they own vast areas of the oceans as their private fishing areas for profit. Come on, guys, it's the American taxpayers who allow you to fish our oceans for your profit. Let's get that straight.

Hopefully, this great idea will not become too cumbersome to enact in a timely manner, since big government moves far too slowly in the first place. These are a lot of competing interests at the table and there are bound to be fights over perceived personal turf.

Fishermen need to remember that when the oil rigs came into the Gulf of Mexico, the rigs actually created artificial reefs that attracted fish in droves. Those new fishing grounds became lucrative areas for local fishermen close to home.

Perhaps the same will be true as America turns to alternative sources of energy like ocean wind farms. Who knows the benefits yet to come? Any way we look at it, America must move forward in our thinking. America must get serious about pulling together for every one's benefits instead of a few interests and our search for energy must be demonstrated in less destructive manners to the environment.

There is only so much environment to go around and this is all we possess without starting a war to take someone else's land. That certainly was the way of humanity's history for generations when we depleted our resources: we took the other guy's. Time for a paradigm shift in thinking. We can learn to better manage our environment. This new plan to manage our oceans is a good start to get a handle on organizing and deciding where to go from here.

How Obama wants to protect oceans: White House unveils new plan - The Obama administration wants to change the way America manages its oceans. So it has introduced a plan to bring all stakeholders – from fishermen to oil companies – to the table.

The Monitor's View: After Gulf oil spill, Obama plans better use of oceans - With the end of the BP oil spill in sight, Obama orders federal agencies to zone human uses of coastal seas (and the Great Lakes). It won't be easy but it is essential.

'Whale' super skimmer drops out of Gulf oil spill response - The converted iron ore freighter ‘A Whale’ recovered only negligible amounts of oil from the Gulf oil spill. Smaller, nimbler skimmers are more appropriate for widely dispersed spills, the Coast Guard says.

Speaking of resources, The Whale oil skimmer was a huge disappointment to the Gulf residents. Apparently, it could not manage the dispersed oil as it was not large enough to gather in the manner they expected. Yet another reason to quit with the cancer-causing dispersant from BP I never thought were wise. You see, if BP never used that dispersant, the oil would have remained thicker and floated on the surface of the ocean, making it easier for clean up crews and this boat called The Whale.

Most of that mess could have been finished up by now. Instead, the dispersed oil went down, hiding under the surface of the ocean, making the disaster look better on news video. Everything BP did was calculated for public perception. It still is doing that in the way of the constant barrage of TV ads here claiming they are doing such a great job and claiming it was all their idea.

News flash: Obama demanded they do the very things to which they claim are their ingenious ideas. BP even hired people claiming to be Louisiana residents, thinking that will tamp down the anger around here. Who are these people who think Gulf residents are this stupid anyway? A New York City ad agency? Don't even get me started on Americans who work for BP as lawyers protecting BP and ad agencies defending them for their own profit.

American citizenship changes

Can you see it now? Talk about fights in Congress spilling out into the streets over all the issues with immigration and a down economy where everyone will be pointing fingers. This bill is not going to help matters at all.

Will US revoke the right of American citizenship to foreigners born here? - A bill in the House of Representatives would change the 14th amendment to the US Constitution that grants anyone who is born on US soil the right of American citizenship. Efforts to revoke birthright citizenship could make it the new flash point in the debate over immigration.

Americans and the Economy

People are ticked off in America. We have watched our neighbors get foreclosed on when they lost their jobs. Then we watched the value of our homes get cut in half. Our homes are typically our savings or retirement accounts for most middle class Americans.

What this devastating economy is saying to Americans is, "We don't care about you." The Republicans and Big Business have devastated this economy. It makes you wonder if there will be anyone left standing with a job that can afford groceries, a house, a car with the way the Greed of Big Business and Big Banks has raped the American economy. It's no wonder Americans are furious with corporations and their government for refusing the stem the flow of jobs overseas.

Eight ways the Great Recession has changed Americans - Fifty-five percent of Americans in the labor force have experienced a job loss, a pay cut, or a reduction in hours since the onset of the Great Recession in 2007, a new survey finds.">Eight ways the Great Recession has changed Americans - Fifty-five percent of Americans in the labor force have experienced a job loss, a pay cut, or a reduction in hours since the onset of the Great Recession in 2007, a new survey finds.

Beyond unemployment insurance: Six ideas to lift the economy - While Congress fights over extending unemployment insurance, Americans remain sour on the economy. But a few proposals show promise for encouraging growth.

Is stimulus plan working? The arguments pro and con. - A white House report released Wednesday said the stimulus plan has saved or created as many as 3.6 million jobs. But polls show Americans are skeptical.

Elena Kagan nomination

One Republican Senator, Lindsay Graham, stunned everyone, when, as a member of the Judiciary Committee, decided to break political ranks and vote FOR Kagan's nomination. I guess he felt guilty at his poor performance during her hearing where he hammered her on not being Christian enough for his preference. In short, the man was obnoxious. Glad to see he had a change of heart. Another shocker is that Sen. Lugar, also a very conservative difficult Republican, decided to vote in her favor.

Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan wins second GOP vote: Richard Lugar - Sen. Richard Lugar becomes the second Republican to say he will support Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan. Sen. Lindsey Graham announced his support Tuesday.

Israel's New Defense System

For the past four years, Israel has been busy coming up with a counter measure to those many crude rockets sailing over the walls pf Gaza to harm and provoke Israelis. This new system is not all inclusive protection for large cities. However, it can easily handle the many crude rockets launched from Gaza. It's a blow to Iran who has supported these terror groups in these efforts to terrorize Israeli citizens.

Israel's Iron Dome missile defense system not a silver bullet - Israel finished testing its Iron Dome missile defense system today, four years after Hezbollah exposed Israel's vulnerability to rocket attacks.

The latest fussing over trying to contain North Korea

Sec. Clinton and Sec. Gates have teamed up to try and tamp down tensions with North and South Korea. Of course, the Chinese got miffed when one of our officials used "The Sea of Japan" term to describe where America was conducting cooperative military exercises with South Korea. China prefers the term "East Sea." Such is life in the diplomatic world of semantics. Sadly, it's those semantics which cause people to go to war. Kudos go to Clinton and Gates for working their magic.

Military exercises are a show of force which provide visual reminders to rogue nations of what the allies of their enemy can do. It was a smart idea on Obama's part to send out the USS Washington for these exercises. After all, it was North Korea who blew the hell out of a South Korean ship, sunk it, killing 46 people. Ruthless is as ruthless does and the international community is taking action as well as imposing sanctions on North Korea. When this guy finally dies, it will be interesting to take a film crew into that country and find out how many people are actually still alive. He has been starving them for decades.

USS George Washington, S. Korea military drills send mixed signals to North Korea

North Korea sanctions announced by Clinton part of a diplomatic dance for South Korea - The United States is getting tough on North Korea by conducting military drills using the USS George Washington with South Korea next week. North Korea sanctions announced by Hilary Clinton on her visit to South Korea's DMZ Wednesday are a display of solidarity to ease South Korean concerns about the American commitment. North Korea sanctions announced by Hilary Clinton on her visit to South Korea's DMZ Wednesday are a display of solidarity to ease South Korean concerns about the American commitment.

Afghan War Acts Like a Sticky Post-It Note on America's Ass

Afghan government officials are pressing the international donor community to release control of the funds. Are you kidding me? Afghanistan is a mish-mash of Stone Age chieftains who feud regularly and suppress women's rights. Why would America trust you with our $50 billion pledged to help rebuild your infrastructure? Frankly, I think we need to redirect those funds back to America and allow these folks to find their own way. Clearly, they are a corrupt government and have been for years. Too much money is too much temptation to do more wrong.

Afghanistan war: Are Afghan forces loyal enough to take control by 2014? - The beheadings of six Afghan police have raised questions about the true loyalties of some Afghan forces during a crash program to recruit and train more locals in the Afghanistan war.

Afghanistan: Send less money for drug war, give us more control - On the eve of the Kabul Conference – the ninth major international Afghan donor conference – Afghanistan's Finance Minister Omar Zakhilwal offers suggestions for how to cut down on the waste and fraud that is limiting the impact of billions in aid.

Latest From the Iraq War

Breakthrough for new Iraq government? Allawi meets Maliki, Sadr - A flurry of meetings could signal the formation of a new Iraq government by next week's deadline. Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's main challenger met with him tonight, after meeting kingmaker Muqtada al-Sadr yesterday.

Pakistan's Fears, Security of America and Pakistan and Vulnerability of Pakistani nukes

Currently, Obama is trying the softer approach of winning over the Pakistani people. The Pakistanis are still furious over Blackwater (as well they should be) and they callous way Bush and Cheney conducted themselves over there by just using Pakistan to secure America's security.

The reality is that you have to have a relationship with people. The war against these terrorists like the Haqqani network, widely viewed as funded from Pakistan's security establishment, is the prime target Obama is after. Until now Pakistan has been reticent to crack down on the Haqqani network because parts of their government are so entwined with them. Obama is hoping to sweet talk them.

Well, a few hospitals built, a terrific new water system to help out thousands on the Afghan-Pakistan border and a few other goodies should go a long way to improving relations. If the presidential gamble does not work, then Pakistan and their media cannot complain we never tried and the onus will be on them.

Another bone of contention that Pakistan has with America is our worry over their nukes and the security of them. Pakistan thinks we want them for ourselves. You have got to be kidding me. We have aging nukes in our arsenal and we wish we could be rid of them as they are costly to keep up and a danger to own.

What the whole world wants is for any nukes to be tucked away safely and not an international danger that could prove to be easily stolen by terrorists. Since parts of the Pakistani government are funding Afghan terrorists then you will have to certainly understand why America is gravely concerned about Pakistan's sincerity of commitment to nuke security.

In Pakistan, Hillary Clinton announces new aid projects, lauds mango - The mood was upbeat during Hillary Clinton's two-day visit to Pakistan, in contrast to her visit in October. Today she announced plans for two hydroelectric dams and three hospital projects.

And a few more stories in the headlines...

Veil ban: Why Syria joins Europe in barring the niqab - After issuing the veil ban on Sunday, which bars the full-face niqab veil from both public and private universities, Syria is now heading into waters that have proved difficult for Egypt. Courts there struck down similar bans.

China oil spill spreads but not as big as BP oil spill in Gulf - China officially doubled the size of the oil spill caused by an explosion last week at the port city of Dalian. The China oil spill is now 165 square miles, but still just a fraction of the size of the BP oil spill in Gulf.

Environment

Why are dead penguins washing up on Brazil's beaches? - Some 500 dead penguins turned up dead last week on the beaches of São Paulo state in Brazil. Vets think they died of hunger or exhaustion after coming in search of food.

How To Save Obamas Presidency AND The American Economy

*** America needs the courage of bold leadership from our President and Congress. The time for the bickering to end is now. Pull together in time of economic crisis: a plan for jobs.

Americans do what we do best: problem-solve

From Denny: At our house every day we pause in the morning and again in the mid-afternoon to enjoy a cup of coffee or green tea. We start our days around 4 to 5 AM when deep thinking is the easiest to access after a night of sleep and dreaming. The mind is just primed for that kind of problem-solving. At that time, we discuss the world news developments. Then, we set about solving all the problems of the world - until the next day. :)

Maybe I should give this "think time" a special name like Denny's Think Tank. And it's time to open up the free membership to this new think tank. Feel free to offer up your good ideas and thoughts to help solve problems in the world. Feel free to offer up solutions for how to help the American economy. You, my cool and dear readers, are now officially inducted into Denny's Think Tank. I'm "feeling the Love" as Chef Emeril Lagasse declares and somewhere down the road there will probably be a charitable foundation start-up. Why wait for someone else to do it?

I've been doing these kinds of "think time" since I was three years old. Guess that comes from growing up around the military and intelligence communities where every day of The Cold War (and other wars) they were on edge and discussing developments at home and a flurry of phone calls even on weekends. Their stress levels were high and never cooled off.

Most small children's first words beyond Mama and Dada are words like "cookie." Mine? Well, cookies were part of vocabulary from the womb, big cookies. My words were odd ones like "thermo nuclear dynamics, periodic tables, exponential curve." The atmosphere was ripe with a chemical engineer father who worked on the early government nuke projects and an uncle who was a physicist-mathematician who also worked in government research and development.

As a young kid I found it amusing they never took me seriously because I was a kid and, most of all, because I was female. They were convinced all women were stupid. Arrogance is like that and a weakness. As a result, they and their colleagues talked a lot around me.

When they were stuck on a problem, suddenly the conversation stopped and all eyes in the room riveted upon me. I was waiting there all along as I knew from their tension they needed someone to think differently than they did. They would look down at me, explaining the issue in simpler terms. I would first ask a series of rapid fire questions, frustrating the hell out of them. I was purposely pushing them to jump past the typical scientist analytical surface logic to open the door and access their spiritual level. Driving them totally crazy was a successful strategy to push them off their usual balance and comfortable - but much too small a thinking box - control freak environment. It was necessary so they could access their "Smart Center."

Then I would finally start the process of giving them answers. I would process all of what they gave me and spit back out the obvious answer that had been staring them in the face the whole time (at least by my estimation). They would ask a few questions to qualify the answer and then start thinking out loud about the steps necessary to solve the problem. I would monitor their progress to see if they would slip backwards into "Stinkin' Thinkin'" and interject when needed. In the end, they solved big or small problems and went back to being ingrates treating me as "just a stupid female." And, so, I went for a walk with the dog, leaving the idiot adult world of intelligence community Drama Kings to work itself out. Problems solved and bad situations averted. Worked for me.

Of course, this is the very reason why you need more than single-focused experts to solve problems in the government, the military and the intelligence communities. You need at least one generalist for every pack of howling experts, jockeying for status, puffing out their annoying egos who are more interested in advancing their own agendas than solving the problem at hand. That's my life experience and opinion of truth. Now that you have the back story let's move on to identifying and solving today's economic and political issues. Tall order, I know. I don't shy away from tough life challenges or the big scope necessary to solve them satisfactorily.

There are four problems to be identified

So we can all be on the same page, let's start with identifying the problems facing America at the moment.

* President Obama wants to be re-elected in 2012. The Democrats want to get re-elected or elected in the November 2010 elections. Obama's popularity is well below 50 percent because of legislation passed that have failed to affect positive change for the majority of the country: the middle class. As a result, middle class wealth is fast evaporating and the anger faster rising to loud howls to tar and feather every politician, CEO, attorney, banker and lobbyist known to man.

* Avoiding the World Economic Depression - As a result of the G-20 meeting, the indications are high we will jump off the cliff and dive into a deep depression like what was seen in the 1930's. Only America has faith in the Spend Money economic model. All the other countries have decided it's every man for himself. Let me share a thought with you, come this next G-20 meeting the majority of those leaders will no longer be in office. The Obama Spend Money model is the only model to prevent America from getting completely flushed down the toilet. Not putting money into the economy stops the economy dead in its tracks.

* High Unemployment - Another thing that stops the economy is huge job loss and it's time to do something about it. When people don't have enough money coming in to pay bills, buy food or put a roof over their heads then the last thing they do is buy anything unnecessary. They slow down the economy because they are judiciously choosing where to spend their money. They want "the most bang for the buck."

* America's Energy Grid and Transportation - Our energy grid is a crazy patchwork that breaks down continually. Time for an overhaul to update, renovate and innovate. As to transportation, the way we move people is not efficient and causes excessive use of fossil fuels.

The Bold Plan

Political statement from the President: It's time we put back to work 20 million people in this country. It's time for bold action on our part. It's time for a massive project of which this country has never seen. The time is now.

Note: Currently, there are 15 or more unemployed, some for as long as two years. There are another 15 to 20 million who are underemployed - whose wages have been cut significantly or cut in half - and they are unable to meet their financial obligations without hardship.

The Projects:

* Transportation networks covering the entire country

Transportation like new trains to carry passengers across the country, paralleling interstates. Comprehensive bus lines to tie in remote areas to the cities.

* Energy grid rebuilding

Out energy grid was built back in the 1950's and '60's, not seriously updated for the information age on the level we need. Energy consumption is high and the current grid cannot keep up with the demand. This is where we can get serious and introduce what works for alternative energy to fossil fuels.

Geographic Regions of New Employment

There are millions of people in need of going to work. America is in need of infrastructure repairs for bridges, highways, the energy grid, public schools and more.

Create at least 10 geographic zones throughout the country to put people back to work. There are abandoned military bases where we could create start-up businesses, factories or house workers temporarily until they have enough paychecks under their belts to re-establish themselves after bankruptcies and home foreclosures.

Much of the mountain desert western region of America could be turned into solar farms. Tornado alley could be turned into wind farms. San Francisco already has a wave energy technology and that could be used to harness wave energy on the Atlantic Coast, off Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico, even the mighty Mississippi River has very strong currents and perhaps it could be employed there as well.

It's time for the government to step up and put America to work

Centralize our energy efforts and quit placing them into the greedy hands of the private sector that has proven time and again they are not trustworthy. The government can create many businesses which can be sold off later in another decade or so after the economy stabilizes. Another option is we could sell the stock to the employees or the American people.

Any way you look at it the only hope for American workers is for the government to create the jobs by creating gargantuan scaled work projects. Yes, the Republicans will howl because their Big Business handlers will fret they are getting undercut in the market. In the end, after all the political grand standing, they will comply and join the parade just to get a piece of the action.

During the 1930's and the Great Depression, President Roosevelt agonized over the same dire straits unemployment statistics. FDR was a complex man who was not perfect. He was often stubborn and reticent about engaging in the tough issues of his time. Yet, even he realized the country was going down the tubes fast if he didn't create jobs by using government monies. He was fiercely opposed by the obstructionist stingy cheap Republicans back then.

You, Mr. President, should you decide to boldly step forward to help your people in their time of need, will also be fiercely opposed. Worry about the lawsuits and attacks on Presidential power later. This moment in history America is at a cross roads and the country is requiring emergency measures.

Take stock of the resources you do have and hit the ground running with a staff of people who are expert organizers that can set up structures in a flash. There is no more time to consider for it is time that you and your team are wasting. Step up and step forward, Mr. President, and you will be remembered along with the greats among Presidents.

*** Update Saturday 3 July 2010: The President announced this morning in his weekly radio address that he has awarded $2 billion to solar plants to create 5,000 jobs.

"We're going to keep competing aggressively to make sure the jobs and industries of the future are taking root right here in America," President Obama said.

In Arizona the solar plant company, Abengoa Solar, will build one of the world's largest solar plants right here in America. That will create 1,600 construction jobs.

Abound Solar Manufacturing is building plants in Colorado and Indiana. Between these two solar plant projects there are 2,000 construction jobs created. More importantly there are 1,500 permanent jobs created.

Obama Awards $2B for New Solar Power Plants

Good going, Mr. President, this is a step in the right direction. Now multiply that 100 times because there are thousands of people homeless and jobless. We must understand we will have to temporarily house them - much like moving the military - as we put them back to work. But this solar energy award is an excellent first move for America's future, both in jobs and alternative energy technology. American Revolt: How You Can Break Big Business, Big Banks, Big Insurance, Big Oil, Big Lobbyists

*** What you can do to break the yoke of Big Business, Big Banks, Big Insurance and Big Oil off your middle class necks. From Denny: Are you disgusted with your Big Bank credit card company jamming you up with outrageous minimum payment demands, feeing you to death and playing games with variable high interest rates without recourse or punishment for their actions? Are you fed up with the financial sector Wall Street hyenas' artificially inflated prices at the gas pump? Are you furious that Big Insurance keeps hiking up your health care premiums and other insurance products? Are you in a rage that Big Business lobbyists for Big Banks, Big Insurance and Big Oil have a stranglehold on our government? Are you unemployed and furious that Big Business lobbyists went to great lengths to deny you unemployment benefits extensions to pay your bills and put food on the table because they were too cheap to pay their portion of the benefits? Want to have the power to do something about it?Denny's Think Tank and Muffin MondayDenny's Think Tank, currently comprised of just two people and four Hurricane Katrina cats at our house - however, we are extending free membership to all my dear readers of all 14 blogs - well, we have been busy on the problem and come up with the solution. We like to "solve all the problems of the world" at our house every morning over coffee.Good ideas seem to evolve from one small act. That small act of mine, as a blogger, began with Muffin Monday recipe segments on the food blogs: Romancing The Chocolate, Unusual 2 Tasty and Comfort Food From Louisiana. I like muffins. Who doesn't? It's practically unpatriotic not to like muffins. Muffins are easy to make for beginner bakers. Muffins are popular in America, and, as a blogger, I was looking for non-copyright released recipes I could publish easily. Researching there was found a treasure trove of good recipes, ones tweaked - and therefore changed from the originals - from what I realized had been previous Gourmet, Epicurious, Food and Wine and Bon Appetit recipes from the past 20 years. Yes, foodies read too many glossy magazines. It must be the awesome photos. :)The treasure trove of good recipes was found at various bed and breakfast inn sites so I decided how cool it would be to do more than provide a courtesy link to their business but rather to start promoting them because they are small businesses. Big Business has run so many small businesses out of business the past 20 years that America has become this boring homogenized vast wasteland of mediocre choices. I've watched wonderful local colorful grocery stores, pharmacies, hardware stores, restaurants and clothing stores all get broken by Big Business just in my area. Ruthless Big Business continues to break small businessesThe one exception I have to say that behaves better for Big Business is the Whole Foods grocery chain. When they came to Baton Rouge, Louisiana they took a look at the surrounding Mom and Pop grocery stores and did not undercut their prices on matching products they carried. Whole Foods also supports the local farmers and buys up all the fruits, nuts, vegetables and meats they can produce. I'm sure they are not perfect but at least they make a conscious effort not to cause bad economic ripples in the community where they plant themselves. That said, the vast majority of Big Business is ruthless. Lately, they have gotten just too ruthless by sending thousands of jobs overseas after receiving taxpayer government monies. (That was General Motors, folks, who took our money and then cut 5,000 jobs that went overseas this year.) Big Business continues to think they can cut thousands of jobs, send them overseas and yet there will be people left in our country who can afford to buy their products. What kind of logic is this? The only answer is unadulterated greed - and a CEO who wants to make his quarterly BOB: Big Obscene Bonus. What you can do to break Big BusinessWe Americans continue to grouse, complain and outright bitch to our political representatives and the courts only to be lied to, taken advantage of and denied fairness and justice. So, what is a self-respecting American and rabble rouser to do to gain back their power in their own country? Easy. Support ONLY small businesses like these bed and breakfast inns whenever you travel for business or pleasure. Their prices are comparable to Big Business hotel chains and so are the amenities, local attractions and shopping. The beauty of this strategy of supporting bed and breakfast inns over Big Business hotels is that Big Banks and Big Insurance finance the mortgages on these Big Business hotels. Right now commercial real estate has taken a nose dive, hence, the reason the Big Banks took bailouts from the American taxpayers. In fact, the Big Banks unloaded all their toxic assets - like foreclosed homes and small businesses - onto and for the American government to absorb - in addition to taking billions of dollars plunked down onto their profit line. World leader fools, minus Obama, from the G20 Meeting who are bankrupting the world economy by rejecting the governmental Spend Money economic model: Frustration with American politiciansBig Business controls our government on so many levels. We are reduced to waiting for each election cycle in the hopes of throwing out the corrupt politicians. Yet, at the end of the day, the Big Business lobbyists continue to do business in Washington, ignoring the voters' wishes and now desperate needs.Achilles Heels of Big Business, Big Banks, Big Insurance, Big Oil and Big LobbyistsThe one weakness these powerful behemoths have in common is us. If we all - or at least 15 percent of the country - refuse to do business with them it will destroy their businesses. Most huge companies run on about a two percent to 15 percent profit margin to stay in business. Surprising, isn't it? Auto dealers run on a two percent profit margin. It's the manufacturers who screw them over as small businesses so they pass it on to screw over the customers. It's an ugly cycle.Facebook BP Protesters SucceededOver 300,000 people banned together on Facebook to protest BP gas stations, refusing to buy their product. In my town where we have an Exxon oil refinery, the price of gas is outrageous. BP's prices are often as much as 75 cents higher than Exxon and Shell. People say by protesting BP gas stations you are hurting the American owners. I say, "You lie down with dogs you get fleas." It's time for people to make a choice if they will be truly patriotic and do what helps all of America or keep choosing their profit wallets over the dire straits of the economy. These BP protesters succeeded in driving down the value of BP's stock to half of what it had been before the oil spill. If we support small businesses and shut out Big Businesses as much as possible we can break their high stock values as well. Think of all the Walmarts that drove out dozens of small businesses. Originally, from the 30 year old model, Big Businesses like Walmart were supposed to offer better prices to American shoppers. But, over time, those prices have risen and poor quality products from child labor and prisoner inmate labor countries have flooded our markets. The Chinese use prison laborers and give us toxic lead paint toys. India uses child labor to produce rugs and clothing. Meanwhile, our textile factories across America close and thousands of people lost their jobs.Hope is still here if only we will act and take back our powerThe sad stories are endless. But, so also is Hope: endless. We can change things in this country if enough of us will band together and use our power as consumers to break all the Big Businesses. You break the Big Businesses - and the Big Banks who finance them also fall with them. When the Big Business and Big Banks fall then so too do the Big Lobbyists with no one to pay them outrageous money to hijack our government with economic terrorism.Break Big Banks by moving your checking accounts to small and medium sized banksAnother way to break Big Banks is to move your checking accounts to federal credit unions and other regional and local medium and small sized banks. Only Big Banks get the best interest rates and then they jack up their prices and lend to the medium and small banks, virtually holding them hostage. So why does the Federal Reserve not give the same great interest prices to the small and medium sized banks? The Fed remains quiet on that one and has in every administration. There is no excuse for it. Big Banks continue to hold a monopoly in our country, strangling the economy with their greedy and unwise practices.Small Business Employs most of AmericaRemember, the statistics tell us that somewhere between 70 to 80 percent of Americans work for small businesses. Small businesses also keep the jobs here in America unlike the Big Businesses. It's time to run Big Businesses out of business or succeed in breaking them up into smaller less damaging entities. Either way the American consumer wins because the small businesses will get more business and have to start hiring the unemployed. Hiring the unemployed will jump start our economy. It will make it possible to rebuild America into a thriving economy. We will no longer be co-dependent upon the whims of Big Business and our corrupt corporate-loving politicians who fawn at their arrogant diva feet.
