Obama Wins 54,000 Jobs From India to USA

Obama battles to get jobs and keep jobs for Americans from Asia and India.

From Denny: The 2010 Midterm Election Shellacking was all about jobs creation or shoring up jobs teetering on the edge of going away. So, Obama hopped a plane, went to visit the folks in India to let them know how important a nation of one billion people are to America and is coming home with a basket full of jobs for Americans. Nice job, Mr. President, now you are on to something. These jobs are the result of more than 20 trade deals between India and American corporations.

India's SpiceJet Airlines is buying 33 American 737's as part of this trade deal. General Electric is selling aircraft engines to India's military. Another trade deal in the works is for Boeing to sell 10 of their C17's to the Indian Air Force. Currently, even as large as India is, it is only America's 14th largest trading partner.

Of course, the Boo Birds from the wingnut aisle are loudly complaining about the cost of the President's trip to India. Where were these same Boo Birds when President Bush went on his visit to India? Yeah, quiet and nowhere in sight, that's where. This is the usual juvenile misdirection from the Republicans who want to direct Americans' attention away from what their President is doing for them: creating and supporting current jobs from disappearing. And corporations continue to whine about how this President does not help them in their trade deals? How disingenuous of them.

The President is on a ten day trip to Asia where he is working feverishly to create jobs for Americans. The $10 billion trade deal investments from India creates 54,000 jobs FOR Americans. The President is announcing new export rules to make it easier for American companies to do business with India.

India is known infamously as the American home of outsourced call center jobs to which many Americans are unhappy. Well, turnabout is fair play and now India is sending us jobs. Great start, Mr. President.

What else is the President doing to create jobs here in America? He is busy selling American goods not only to India but also to emerging markets throughout Asia. The way I look at it, world trade has to work both ways. If America accepts their products they need to accept ours equally too. No more should America continue to get the short end of the stick like during the Bush years. Bush had the absolute worse trade negotiators that left America holding the bag constantly. Hopefully, Obama will be mindful of the trade inequities and bolster America's standing for a bigger share of the trade pie.

On this visit, Obama has been well received in India both by the people and the Indian government. We all have seen on the news the tough questions handed to Prez Obama by Indian students asking about his midterm shellacking. He held the Indian version of a town hall meeting at St. Xavier College in Mumbai, India, just like here in America when he goes out to talk to the American people or campaign.

Gibbs protecting press rights to cover the President's meeting with the Indian Minister while arguing with Indian security trying to pull a fast one

The only wrinkle during this trip was a heated exchange of Senior Advisor and Press Secretary Robert Gibbs with the Indian security. The word is that the Indian security demanded the American press stay out of the room while only the Indian press was allowed to attend the Obama-Indian Prime Minister meeting. That did not go over well with Gibbs who shouted at the the Indian security. Gibbs threatened to call off the meeting with Obama unless the Indian security relented and allowed the American press to cover the event. The Indian security eventually relented. Good going, Gibbs! That Southern Ala-Damn-Bama anger served the freedom of the press well this week! :)

Aside from that incident the Indian press has covered Prez Obama's three-day stay in India on 200 channels and in 26 languages. There are 1.2 billion in India yet they live in a geographic area only one-third the size of America.

To say things are intense is an understatement. It's a media frenzy where they hang on every word uttered by the President along with 24/7 streaming news. The President has kept his usual demeanor of cool in the situation. One news network even sent out reporters to cover the American reporters and report back on all their doings. Now that's intense news coverage when you cover the news reporters of a visiting President as much as the visiting dignitary. I have got to visit India one of these days as these guys sound like a lot of fun because they don't miss a beat and not much gets past them. :)

On the final day of his visit, Prez Obama spoke to India's parliament. In what is currently only a diplomatic and symbolic gesture, since revision to the United Nations Charter would be required, Obama called for permanent membership of India on the Security Council.

"The just and sustainable international order that America seeks includes a United Nations that is efficient, effective, credible and legitimate," President Obama said. "That is why I can say today - in the years ahead, I look forward to a reformed U.N. Security Council that includes India as a permanent member."

His gesture was met with enthusiastic approval and the loudest applause of his speech. Unfortunately, it could take years to revise the U. N. Charter before India could take a rightful permanent seat on the U. N. Security Council as a nation of 1.2 billion people.

At the moment, India is concerned about two pressing issues for them besides permanent membership on the U. N. Security Council: the high negative of India viewed by resnetful Americans as the place to visit their outsourced jobs and the huge funding funneled into their arch rival, unstable Pakistan.

Aside from those thorny issues of perception and political strategy because of the war in Afghanistan, India and America have finally forged an improved relationship over the past decade.

"I don't think there's an area of human endeavor in which we do not actually cooperate," said Shivshankar Menon, India's national security adviser. "We work together in innovation. We work together in technology. We create jobs in each other's economy. When you look at the political military side as well, we work together on national security, on counter terrorism, defense."

Because of India's increasing rise of importance in the world, this White House traveled to India to highlight the rise of India on the world stage. National Security Adviser Tom Donilon said, "Obama intends the trip to be a full embrace of India's rise." Said Donilon: "There's no more powerful way to do that than a presidential trip."

John Dickerson talks to senior political producer, Rob Hendin, about President Obama's visit to New Delhi; Plus, Lynn Sweet on Obama's reception in India & what happens when he returns home; Also, Oscar-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney on his latest, "Client 9."

Prez Obama Interviews At The Daily Show With Jon Stewart

Check out the class act of the President talking with Jon Stewart.

From Denny: Prez Obama did a great job pressing his case for why to vote for him and the Democrats come November 2nd. This was one of those better interviews where the President actually gets to talk in sentences longer than idiot sound bites and the interviewer is not playing the stupid game of "gotcha journalism." Oh, that our politicians would talk like this in public with one another like in this give-and-take interview, disagreeing without launching into the character assassination wars.

Obama Investigates: Big Banks Screw Up Home Foreclosures

Learn how the Big Banks just screwed themselves out of all their profits.

From Denny: Who really feels sorry for the greedy Big Banks who have repeatedly raped the wallets of the American public? Awww, everyone all together now in unison, "Can you hear me now???"

Obamas Popularity, Polls Roundup of American Opinion - 16 Sept 2010

Check out this week's polling of Americans from the President's approval rating, tax cuts, anti-Muslim feelings to frustration with our politicians. From Denny: Prez Obama is not faring well with this week's polling for his popularity due to slow economic progress. Only 45 percent say they approve compared to 47 percent who disapprove of his performance after almost two years in office. And this is why I keep pressing this President to develop a serious sense of urgency for enacting and pushing strong economic measures. Yet he and his team continue at much too slow a pace to bring relief to millions of hurting Americans.Interestingly enough the disapproval in this poll is not based upon disgust, dislike or disappointment but rather how this President did not meet their expectations of what they thought he would do in office. Most Americans view the economy as the most pressing issue facing the country and this is where President Obama received the most wide ranging criticism. Traditionally, Democrats are usually much more attentive and fire in the belly when it comes to tending the home fires of the economy. People are surprised this sense of urgency does not exist with this White House. For that perception, right or wrong, the President is ranked at only a 41 percent approval rating. The disapproval camp weighs in at 51 percent.Sixty percent of Americans view the President as not having made any real progress at fixing the economy. A majority of 53 percent complain he still does not have a clear plan for creating jobs.As to the blame game for who screwed up the economy, it's President George W. Bush who still receives the majority of those "accolades," along with Wall Street. Bush is blamed for 37 percent of the problem, Wall Street gets 21 percent and Congress gets its share at 11 percent. Only five percent blame Obama. The general feeling is unhappiness with the direction of the country and most especially the economy. Yet 63 percent have decided that Obama's time in the White House is about what they had expected. I'm amazed this country is still standing considering the mess the Republicans left the country through neglect or bad policies. As to the country's pessimists? A little over one in four complain the President's performance is worse than expected - that included 17 percent of Democrats. Of course, those who are the loudest complainers are Republicans. No surprises there. The sad thing is that only a handful say that Obama has exceeded their expectations. Ouch. When polling those who voted for Obama in 2008 the numbers broke down to the majority of 67 percent figured his performance is as was expected. Those who thought his performance as worse came to 19 percent. Those who thought his performance was better than expected came to 12 percent. Not enough progress on the economy39 percent thinks Obama has a clear plan57 percent think he does notWhat about Republicans and their plan for the economy?72 percent say the Republicans don't have a plan. Read that as the Republicans are viewed as clueless and useless. So how did the President fare this week (15 Sept) with his popularity among his Democratic base?76 percent of Democrats approveWhere are the pivotal Independents on Obama's job rating?49 percent of Independents disapprove 42 percent who approve of his jobWhat's on the mind of Americans when it comes to the economy?60 percent say it is the most important problem facing the country8 in 10 think the economy is somewhat bad1 in 5 thinks the economy is getting better6 in 10 voters are somewhat concerned that someone in their household will lose their job in the next 12 monthsDemocrats vs. Republicans on Obama's fixing of the economy87 percent of Republicans claim Obama has made no progress54 percent of Democrats claim Obama has made some progressIt breaks down to 6 in 10 say the President has made no progress on fixing the economy. Yet twice as many Americans also view Obama as making more effort to work on fixing the economy than Republicans in Congress. The jury still seems to be out on how much effect on the economy the 2009 stimulus package has had.30 percent thinks the economy is better20 percent thinks the economy is now worse46 percent thinks the stimulus really hasn't had any real impactRead those opinions as comparing the economy as to when a person is severely ill, well, he didn't die - yet. Definitely another Ouch factor on this question. What were the opinions on the stimulus package?34 percent thought it was too large27 percent thought it was not large enough28 percent thought it was about rightHow did the opinion on the controversial health care reform fare?49 percent disapprove37 percent approveThat broke down along party lines with most Democrats in the approval category. Independents and Republicans strongly disapprove. Congress and the President need to sit down with the health care law and tinker with it. Why? Because health care premiums continue to rise, especially for small business. A friend told us last week that his small company health care insurance premiums just rose another 17 percent. For now he is going to "eat" the rise but he doesn't know how long he can hold out before he is forced to pass it along to his employees given the current state of the economy.Of the those disapproving of the health care law, 82 percent say they want it repealed. However, that number drops sharply to only 48 percent if insurance companies are no longer required to cover people with existing medical conditions or prior illnesses. Funny thing how self-preservation trumps Republican rhetoric. So how is President Obama doing when it comes to the Afghan War?Looks like everyone is united on this disapproval in the Democrat, Republican and Independent camps: 55 percent think it is going badly.Where the parties do split on opinion:51 percent of Republicans think America is doing the right thing fighting thereMost Democrats and Independents think America should not be involvedFor the past year the overall opinion of remaining in Afghanistan as the right thing to do has slipped down to only 38 percent approval when it was a slight majority just last year in October. What is the opinion of the Iraq War?Only 23 percent think the war was worth the loss of American life and other high costs - even after pulling out the combat troopsOverwhelmingly, both Democrats and Independents say the war simply was not worth it. Republicans are divided on that question.Poll: Obama Approval Rating Mixed, but Most See No Economic ProgressPoll: Most Want New Blood in Congress"Fifty-five percent, by contrast, say it's time to give someone new a chance. That's up from 47 percent in 2006 and 27 percent in 2004. "Asked about most members of Congress, voters are even harsher: just 12 percent say they deserve reelection, while 78 percent want someone new. Those figures are similar to findings in 2006, when Democrats took control of Congress, as well as 1994, when Republicans took over."Poll: Most Americans Want Tax Cuts for the Rich to Expire"Fifty-three percent of Americans agree with Mr. Obama that the tax cuts for the wealthy should be allowed to expire, while 38 percent do not, according to the poll, conducted Sept. 10-14."Two of three Democrats think it is a good idea, and most independents (55 percent) agree. Most Republicans (57 percent) think it is a bad idea."Poll: Most Know Those With Anti-Muslim Feeling"Fifty-five percent say they know someone who has negative feelings toward Muslims tied to the September 11th attacks, while roughly one in five say they themselves have such feelings. Forty percent say they don't know anyone with such feelings, and three in four say they don't personally harbor them. "Seventy-one percent, meanwhile, say that it is at least somewhat likely that Arab Americans, Muslims, and immigrants from the Middle East are being discriminated against in America."*** THANKS for visiting, feel welcome to drop a comment or opinion, enjoy bookmarking this post on your favorite social site, a big shout out to awesome current subscribers – and if you are new to this blog, please subscribe in a reader or by email updates! *** Come by for a visit and check out my other blogs:The Social Poets - news, politicsThe Soul Calendar - science, astronomy, psychologyVisual Insights - photos, art, musicBeautiful Illustrated Quotations - spiritual quotes, philosophyPoems From A Spiritual Heart - poetryThe Healing Waters - health newsDennys People Watching - people in the newsDennys Food and RecipesDennys Funny Quotes - humor

Is Obama A Lame Duck Already? Fire Team Obama to Survive

*** Team Obama is floundering. Time to create a new White House team that is serious about good governing in tough economic times.Obama presidency becoming a lame duck at a fast paceFrom Denny: It looks like Prez Obama is at a crossroads for decision crunch time. Many Presidents find themselves in this uncomfortable position about two years into office when the midterm elections are looming large and look unfavorable. The team that helped get Obama into the White House is not the team who can keep him in the White House. It's clear to everyone in the Democratic Party - and the opposition party as well.Wrong White House team thinks small and local - not national and internationalThis presidency looks to be shaping up negatively much like the Carter presidency in one glaring respect: he has hometown people with a small local political mindset trying to run an international government. It isn't working. The Chicago mindset doesn't work any better than the Georgia mindset did decades ago. Mr. President, you and I both know that God Himself has had a "Come to Jesus Meeting" with you for the past week and a half about firing most of your team. Write it on a rock and take it to the bank: if God is keeping you awake at nights telling you what to do and how to do it then get serious and act upon His recommendations. It's called your conscience.Blood-letting at the White House: Fire GibbsIt's time for a serious blood-letting at this White House. Lose Press Secretary Gibbs and his Deputy who have done a miserable job of getting out the Democrats' message. They have half-stepped every step of the way, thumbing through the Rove political playbook thinking they can fool their own Democratic voters. Just what drugs are they taking to be so foolish as to think their arrogance does not stick out all over them?Fire Axelrod, wrong senior advisorLose Axelrod and his entire staff as they were the driving force of ruining your popularity. Now they have dug the grave on your entire historic presidency and it is about to be relegated to the history books as a serious negative. Axelrod never served you well from the very beginning.Fire Emanuel: when the chief of staff has a bad attitude the whole team stinks from the head downLose Emanuel and his staff as, well, it's clear Emanuel is emotionally fried and just can't stay in politics anymore on any level. He's cooked; put a fork in him because he is done. When you go around spitting on your own Democrats then you have the arrogance to think "you are too big to fail." Wrong. November elections will prove it too.Consider Tom Daschle as new chief of staff who can effectively advance your Democratic agendaReplace Emanuel with former Senator Tom Daschle. Why? Because Daschle is known for several things that the current Team Obama is now lacking: finesse with the opposition party, cleverness in knowing how to outwit the opposition party and, most of all, he understands the whole point of being a politician is to be of service to the people you govern. Right now you have an entire crew who mocks that honorable philosophy and are just about taking home an easy paycheck. You just can't tolerate that in these dire economic times. Change out the entire team. Let the White House blood-letting begin. Be presidential: make the hard decisionsIf you don't do these hard decisions of people you thought were your friends, then you sure don't need to go looking for enemies for you will have an entire political party of them - just like Jimmy Carter to this day. Are you sure you want to spend the rest of your life in the political out house? How to clean up this political mess of a presidencyWhile it's clear that you, Mr. President, never actually figured you would find yourself in this presidency so soon, well, you are here now and it's time to act like a President instead of a political animal. Start governing fast and furious in favor of the middle class and you will have no problem getting re-elected or restoring your popularity. The negatives will become a distant memory for most people as they will focus upon all the good you managed to accomplish after a rough start in the beginning of your presidency. Today is the day for you to make the hard decisions. You have run out of time with the American people.*** THANKS for visiting, feel welcome to drop a comment or opinion, enjoy bookmarking this post on your favorite social site, a big shout out to awesome current subscribers – and if you are new to this blog, please subscribe in a reader or by email updates!

More Lies From BP: Claims Fund on Empty

*** More about the latest insults from BP on the oil spill claims fund mess. From Denny: OK, BP, "Show me the money!" I knew these conniving rat bastards were up to no good. They claim to have struck a deal with President Obama to fund the claims fund at $5 billion per year to the total of at least $20 billion. BP went around spending millions on ad campaigns yet refused to fund the claims fund. BP claims they are dedicated to cleaning up the Gulf. It is plainly obvious now BP is NOT committed to paying what they agreed they owed the Gulf residents.Claims Fund Manager, Ken Feinberg, says he won't release any checks because he knows they will bounce. He keeps pleading like some sorry lost sheep, whining to the press about how naughty BP has been not putting money into the account. You have got to be kidding me. He looks ridiculous. Where is his backbone and outrage? He's a lawyer; he should be doing something more appropriate like at least making a citizen's arrest of the BP execs. If he won't, I sure will - and I'm confident I can find a few million other folks who will join me to arrest them. What is President Obama going to do about this shameful act from the oil industry?Did BP really think Louisianians and the rest of the Gulf coast would let them off the hook when they claimed they have already paid out $5 billion in costs for clean up? They really think they can walk away that easily? Not so fast, scumbags. The President has in his power to yank those lucrative contracts BP has with our military. Yes, BP, a foreign oil company, has the largest contract with our military - not an American company. What's wrong with this picture?Back in late May, near Memorial Day, the White House was livid about the one month old oil spill and wanted to start pulling some of those juicy contracts BP has with our government. Obama should have followed and trusted his instincts. Instead, BP lawyers sweet talked them out of it, claiming they would make everything right again. Yeah, right, and look where we are again after all these months: we have a federal moratorium on the Gulf that has strangled our economy to a standstill and as a result people all over the Gulf coast are struggling to pay their bills and put food on the table for just necessities. Middle class Americans have their own government fighting them on this moratorium that is imploding their local economy. A foreign oil company trashed our environment and several industries all in one day and thought they could just walk away with ease. We got hit from two sides. Where is our federal government when we need them? Apparently, nowhere in sight. No financial relief either. And this creep BP CEO Tony Hayward is still CEO until October. So, that means more lies, more misdirection and more games - and really bad public relations campaign TV ads we have to endure like salt in the wounds as the final insult.
